This is the e-mail we sent.

"If ever there were a no brainer it would be a fee on plastic retail bags.

Don't want to pay? Bring your bag.

Bag harbors bacteria? Well so does your kitchen counter...... and the problem is solved the same way... wash it.

We hope you won't succumb to the blandishments of an industry who's business model depends upon the distribution of an unneeded and unnecessary product that pollutes our environment (bags don't disappear, they just break down into smaller particles of petrochemicals that get in our water supply and food chain) and degrade our community (litter just signals the message that we just don't care about our community).

We urge you to strike a blow for a cleaner brighter Baltimore by supporting the bill to impose a fee on non-reuseable retail shopping bags."
