SolutionIn CaptureOnTouch, executing a job for which single-sided (simplex) scanning is registered will always result in simplex scanning, regardless of the scanner driver settings. To perform duplex scanning, either change the job setting or create another job for duplex scanning.
Canon imageFORMULA Scanner Driver is a software companion of the popular line of home and business lines of scanners from international giant Canon. By finding and installing appropriate driver, you will effectively enable your PC to reliably and quickly detect any available scanner that is connected to it, and provide to the user's wide array of scanning, sharing, and network management services for not only a single PC user, but also all users connected to it home or business LAN.Built to serve as the software layer that stands between the Windows operating system and the external accessory, Canon imageFORMULA Scanner Driver represents a crucial system utility that controls all the aspects of document or photo scanning procedures and... If you get to the point where Apple's Image Capture, or the available Canon drivers for this device are just not working and wasting your time, then note that the optional paid (free trial) VueScan Professional supports the CR-C225 document scanner without any Canon drivers. That gives you vendor independence.
I have owned VueScan Professional since 2010, which allows me to use a Canon abandoned flatbed scanner from that era on my M2 Mac mini pro using Ventura 13.3.1. In the interim years, I have never paid for a VueScan upgrade to maintain current software. In no manner does the VueScan vendor recognize nor compensate me in any way for mentioning their product here.
Yes, Canon's site has a driver and says it's compatible, but the driver doesn't see the scanner, neither does Vuescan, and neither does the OS in System Settings, so I think it's a Mac OS problem, possibly limited to the hardware.
I've been in contact with Canon repeatedly via email and phone; on the phone I was directed from one number to another (in Brazil where I live), and then given an email; I emailed Canon Brazil and Canon Europe and got no reply.
The only solution I can see is to install Windows with Boot Camp - if the hardware is not recognising the scanner in the Mac OS then I don't see how using virtualisation would help. However I really would like to be able to use the scanner again - I don't have money to change it (and are relatively much more expensive in Brazil) and my old MBP is currently not working.
In my case, the MacBook Air M2 running Ventura OS connects via USB to the R10 [verified by viewing OS system report], the CaptureOntouch app opens properly. However, when scan button is pressed ERROR Message comes on screen "cannot use driver". Contacted Canon Support tech who agreed laptop and software seemed to be running correctly but also states that the onboard R10 firmware has no M1/M2 compatible driver and an update has not been developed by Canon engineers to date. As a stand alone, software and drivers are in R10's Firmware.
My problem is that the VirtualHere client recognises the scanner (I can see it in the list under USB Hubs / Synology Hub), but I'm unable to use the scanner from any program. For instance if I go into Adobe Acrobat and select the Cannon scanner I get a message that says "Can't locate device; check cable and power.(-4536)" and then another that says "Acrobat could not communicate to this device."
Still fiddling trying to get my setup to work and still struggling... I think I may have solved the previous problem in that I think I may not have selected Use on the client. I've now done that but now I get a different error "The device could not be locked. Check that another application isn't using the device.(-4630)"
Yes you definitely have to select "Use" in the client for the device to appear connected to your client as by default it wont auto-connect to any devices. Regarding that -4630 error, are you running the very latest drivers for 8.1? e.g
Otherwise if it still fails you may have to try windows 10 (virtualhere uses a new driver for win10+ which is more compatible) or it maybe some interference with the scanning system built-into the synology, if you have the scanner setup inside the synology for network scanning e.g
For many (but not all) Canon printers and scanners we can download a proprietary Linux driver from Canon Asia. If a driver was not yet listed in the Canon web search tool linked above we may still find links to the appropriate driver downlaods from the Canon product overview page. Download the Debian package archives to install the proprietary printer drivers with the Ubuntu Software Center by a double click on them.
Note that drivers available there support a series of printers but not a subset of of this series. This is usually indicated by the product numbering (e.g. for a Pixma IP 2820 you will download the driver for the IP2800 series, for a PIXMA MX457 you will need the driver for the MX450 series, etc.)
In case we need a driver that fully supports all printer features there is a commercially available printer driver Turboprint which actually works great but you may not want to support their rather weird and expensive licencing plan (starting from $34 for one computer and two printers with free updates for 6 months only).
If that does not work try executing the install.sh-Script if it is included in the driver .tar.gz-file of your driver (can be downloaded from the Canon Website, Section Drivers). Afterwards try adding the printer from the GUI again, that's what I just did and it works perfectly.
Once the printer and scanner drivers are installed, connect your device to the computer and start Printers utility test if it works. And launch the Simple Scan utility and select your scanner from app menu Documents -> Preferences -> Scan Source to test if the scanner works.
