I highly recommend https://www.grc.com to check and make sure your ports are actually open and forwarding...

Hi, so I have tried to get MotionEye working so that I could view my MotionEye feed from my phone where ever I am. So I tried to port forward and I set everything as they should be, so in my Asus router config page I went to WAN -> Virtual Server / Port Forwarding and I enabled Port forwarding. And I set my Source Target to my Raspberry Pi's IP address, Port Range is the same that it is set to in MotionEye page -> Settings -> Video Streaming -> Streaming Port and I had set that as 8081 and my Local IP is set to my Routers IP address, Local Port is set to 81 and Protocol is set to BOTH so it's TCP and UDP. And I apply the settings and according to this video: https://youtu.be/sT6bIhqdWHI I should then be able to just go to MyPublicIP:8180 and then I could see my MotionEye live feed, but it does not work! I also tried the Sorce Target IP and adding :8180 after that and that does work, but only when I connect to the same Wifi my Raspberry Pi is connected to and after I switch to mobile data 4G it stops working! I don't know what else to try here so please help me fix this. You can also contact me in Skype: sami_skype321 or Discord: sampsa96#3165

Unless it's a typo, you want your local port to be 80 (http) , not 81

First you need a static ip for the device with motioneyeos, for example 192.168.178.100
Then setup in expert setting http port with a port number that is not occuped from other service, I use port 100

In your router setup external and internal port 100 conncted with ip device 192.168.178.100

porte.jpg

from remote pc you connect to ip wan adress of your modem/router xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:100

On a computer at home
Go to the site, Open the Services tab. Open ShieldsUp!
Click on Proceed.
Under Shields Up Services, type in the port you are using on the outside. (8081, 8080, whatever...)
Then click User Specified Probe List
If it shows that the port is stealthed (green) then it hasn't been opened.
If it says  blocked, then it means the Port forwading is almost set up correctly
If it says Open then you should be able to connect.

Which Asus Router do you have?
Do you have a modem/router also? (Cable Internet or DSL Internet?)

I used this demo:
Service Name: motionEye
Port Range: Port for motionEye Camera (usually 80 or 8765)
Local IP: IP Address of motionEye Camera
Local Port: what port do you want to use externally (If I am reading this right)
Protocol: TCP
Somewhat confusing.

How do you test it? Turn off the wifi on a phone and try to connect to the external IP and Port.

" I have Asus RT-N56U router and it's connected via internet cable."  Is it connected to an ethernet cable to another device, or is it connected to a TV-type coax cable?

The report under Advanced, System Log, Port forwarding, shows what the Router understands, which may be different than what was put in under Advanced, WAN, Virtual Server which is why I asked.
Your ISP may have a firewall on the modem itself. I have business class service at home, and I had to have them set my modem to pass-through, rather than their default, to allow traffic through to my router.
You may have to contact them to see if you can do this, as most residential modems have their own firewalls on by default.
If you go to the website https://www.whatismyip.com/ does it show the same address as what you think the external address is?

You don't have to do port forwarding to obtain motionEye desktop remotely  if you use balenaCloud.

You are reducing security, since it's not end to end encryption, and not entirely within your network, and not on YOUR server, but on someone else's, like NEST or RING, which is one of the reasons users go with their own system.
Does it have its place? Probably. If you want to advertize for them, then try Direct messsaging instead of hijacking requests for help.

Hi StarbaseSSD
You  are not capable enough  to  solve Sami Koskula's problem ? But you are making high talks  about  advertising and hijacking requests. The most modern CCTV cameras are viewed and controlled with cloud services  owned by  manufactures . Are there any restrictions to use MotionEye with other services ?
