I originally didn't think I'd use a regular switchbot but received one as a gift. I love my curtain bot so much that I thought I'd give it a try. I love it! It's handy, and unlike other smart devices, I can still use the light switch manually. My only concern is that it's battery powered and I don't know if the battery can be replaced.

The switch not team has amazing customer service. I was very impressed. The products are very good too. I thought the tape on the door bot was not going to be strong enough, but it actually is very very very strong. In general, I would strongly recommend their products to anyone.

Purchased a mini hub, and bought two switches and a cameras, for a very reasonable price. Found discount codes on the website. and so far everything is working beautifully via the phone app.

I live in Las Vegas where the summer days get to 118 degrees. I have a room with seven 2" blinds that I never opened in the summer and rarely opened in other seasons since it is a pain to synch opening the blinds every day and closing them every night. Switchbot has allowed me to have all the blinds open 60% in early morning, close to 40% in mid morning and close when the sun comes beating in - all automatically. It's like I have a new room in my house. Now if they could only do the same for 4" & 6" shutters!

I bought 4 of them. They were tricky to install at first but then I got the hang of it and the rest were put on easily. They're really good at just getting the job done and you can set them slower to make less noise, although they're really not that loud to begin with. This has been a great buy! The solar panels are great for measuring light and keeping the units charged as well. Highly recommend!

For wand tilt blinds the blind tilt from switchbot is great. I've 4 of them now while working my way through decorating one room at a time and they add a great finishing touch. Being a lazy sod helps too!

We already had a couple and decided to get more for other windows. The low noise setting does markedly decrease noise, but you'll aways hear them. The noise level doesn't bother me.
We have had the others up for a while and haven't had to charge them separately. The solar panels do their job, even through winter.
If I had to complain about something; the little 3M adhesives that hold the tilts stationary against the blinds sometimes let go. It might be because our miniblinds are not big enough for the entire sticky pad, but still annoying.
Overall, they work brilliantly on our mini blinds, the very expansive pic and video guides makes it very easy to install and the app works well.

These have simplified my life and help me to reduce electricity costs. They close the blinds when the blazing Arizona sun is trying to roast the house and open them in the morning so that I'm greeted by an open and bright house when I awake.

Is there a simple, Switchbot-like device that would allow me to control at least one of the knobs? I could use a climate integration in HA and turn the AC on and off depending on the temperature but I cannot figure out how to rotate knobs smart-ly.

I use Switchbot to turn the machine on. This happens either with a button or when Homey notices that someone is awake. I find it pleasant to find a machine that is ready for operation after getting up.

If anyone is looking for a working automation for Moccamaster with Smartplug (that measures power) I have made below which works great. I charge the coffee machine in the evening and brewing can start when:

I first considered opening up my Jura to see if I could somehow do something with ESPhome, or a Fibaro Smart implant. And then I remembered that when I try to solder it always becomes a mess, I hardly know how to program, I have never held a multimeter, and now I actually enjoy the ugly esthetic of the switch bots and bits. I have decided to kind of wear it like a cape that tells anybody walking into my kitchen that I am an out of control nerd. We rule.

This al started when I found out that when my Jura coffee maker is plugged into an outlet (without being switched on) was already drawing about 5 Watt. To eliminate that I used a Fibaro plug (drawing about half a Watt).

To put a bow around it, I created an advanced virtual device (AVD) for the coffee maker that tells me if the device is on (plus shows the power draw of the fibaro plug), and it allows me to switch it on and off.

When I walk into my kitchen I can immediately make myself a coffee. I managed to remember to empty the grounds, refill the beans and top up the water tank. If anyone has any suggestions to automate that bit, I am all ears.

Automating coffee is a nice idea. But please consider the safety concerns and how useful it actually is. For a dolche gusto the time saved is like what, 2 minutes? Compared to the risk of waking up to a puddle of water, perhaps a short circuited machine?

alas, unless you want to automate your super slow drip that needs 8 hours to prepare I feel the effort and risk is not worth it. For the record, I drink instant coffee with powder creamer and stevia. Your point is lost on me

No need for Tuya wifi devices to be supported, by using a little more effort:
You can use tap-to-run scenes to control it, also you can use Raw commands. Mixed or instead.
Raw command have the advantage it talks both ways.

Well, here's one that has me stumped... I'm building a small (200 sq ft) outbuilding that will have no grid (mains) power connection so I'll use solar only for lights and other low-power needs. It will have a small inverter but I'm trying to keep power requirements very low. I want to heat the building with propane and have the ability to turn up the heat to a predetermined temperature remotely, from the house or at a predetermined time. There are several propane direct vent heaters on the market that can run without electricity and don't require room air for combustion, and they even have built-in but non-programmable thermostats. These work by turning a dial to change the temperature setting.

I thought, well, I'll just find a device that can turn the knob when I wish to turn up the heat. However, I've struck out! I can't seem to find such a device. Does anyone know of one? I'm thinking basically of a switchbot for knobs or dials.

It's not designed for knobs or dials but this Thirdreality ZigBee light switch does have a moving part that you might be able to utilize.
I don't have one but I'm sure there's some sort of motor in there just waiting to be bodged into knob turning duty.

The zigbee switch won't work for a knob as best I can tell but it's exactly what I need for a basement light with no neutral so I ordered one (much cheaper than an expensive Caseta switch I was going to order, just to turn off basement lights in a guest house I can see from our house on the property, in which guests often forget to turn the lights off).

Back to the original problem, I'm amazed no one has tackled this. It must be a lot harder than I think. If no other solutions arise I guess I'm going with a heater that requires electricity (and has a programmable stat) and just up the battery and solar size on the shed. I think some people have rigged up something with an Arduino but that's beyond my current skills.

The "unit heaters" you note (which I think might be a UK term for what we call "wall furnaces" generally have three types of thermostats: Either electronic, somewhat programmable ones, such as those found on units made by Rinnai (awesome little machines but they require electricity), or mechanical thermostats built into the unit (found on units made by Martin, for example), or an option to use a millivolt thermostat to basically control the gas valve, which is possible for units made by Empire. These are all brands sold in the US but I've no idea about their availability in other countries, although all should have similar things available, I'd think.

The millivolt thermostat was what I had hoped to use as I figured that would require very little energy. However, I can't seem to find something made by a brand I'm familiar with and Empire doesn't seem to make or offer a programmable stat, and the third party options I found had programming options that seemed very limited. The head of the service dept at my local gas supplier also told me to steer clear of millivolt external thermostats, and said that they wouldn't install them.

The knob/dial turner idea came out of a desire to install a Martin unit that doesn't require electricity as they have units that appear to do what I want EXCEPT come on at a predetermined time each morning and then turn back down at another time (basic setback programming). You have to physically turn a dial to do either, and this building will be my "exercise shed". I don't want to get up at 5:00 AM, go across the dooryard (think driveway/courtyard if that's not a familiar term), and turn up the heat, especially during a Maine blizzard or when it's -10F outside. I'll work out, but that first push to get going is just a bit much at this point in life.

So... I'm likely to just install a Rinnai and up the battery and solar size. They have programmable thermostats on the unit, and they even sell a kit that allows for connection of a third party wifi stat. I might be able to make a a-wave stat work (not sure yet). I have one of these in one of our buildings as the backup heat in case the mini-split goes down (you gotta have 2-3 forms of heat where we live, just in case) and it performs beautifully. I'm just not sure how many watts it will consume during a cold stretch to fun the combustion blower and air distribution fan (separate, which is great). My best guess is a max of 30 watts average even at -10F, and I think that's high as their max draw is 45. Putting a kill-a-watt on one for a few minutes during the summer showed about 25 watts if I cranked it up, and that's a bigger unit than I'll have in this building.
