Movies are the most powerful empathy machine in all the arts. When I go to a great movie I can live somebody else's life for a while. I can walk in somebody else's shoes. I can see what it feels like to be a member of a different gender, a different race, a different economic class, to live in a different time, to have a different belief.

Does anyone out there have any ideas what might be in the Cincinnati box in the Hot Tub Time Machine movies? I just watched the second one and they mention the box a lot more than the first movie but still no clues to whats in it. If you haven't seen the second movie please still give some ideas because like I said you know just as much about the box even if you haven't seen the second movie. I read that the writers of the films may be trying to make another movie that starts off with this mystery or is based around it but I got the impression at the end of the second movie that they won't be making anymore. Please comment if you have any knowledge about this as well. Remember that the Cincinnati box is a shoe box so whatever it contains must fit in it (or does it?) I'm curious what we can come up with.

Reynolds surrounds this central relationshipwith a lot of cops, known as Sharky's Machine. They are played by actors whohave played a lot of other cops in a lot of other movies--Brian Keith, CharlesDurning--and by Bernie Casey, who is playing his first cop but does it withspecial grace. There's a long scene in the film, reportedly improvised, inwhich Casey tells Reynolds what it felt like, the first time he was shot. Weare reminded that cops in the movies hardly ever talk about being shot.

The film succeeds in doing the same, I think: it is a celebration, but like Ebert's own memoir of the same name, Life Itself chooses a vigorous (and often funny) portrait of a good but not perfect man over a staid painting of someone everyone thought was a great critic, or everyone thought was a fun guy to be around all the time, or everyone thought was doing great things for the culture. Not everyone believes that. Some of them say so. And none of those imperfections prevent it from operating as a machine that generates empathy.

Growing up, I loved going to the movies. My parents and I regularly visited the local theater to catch the latest kid-friendly flick; my grandma frequently treated me to a matinee show at the mall after a fun day of shopping; and my high school friends and I occasionally saw the latest action movie in the fancy seats at the big theater chain. And no matter which theater I was at or what time of day it was, I always ordered popcorn.

There is a storage compartment below the unit, which is great for storing all the popcorn supplies like the popcorn scooper and two measuring cups that came with it. Just one more thing I love about this machine!

Contrary to some comments here, a 135 film cartridge is very open to water intrusion. The film slot and both spindle holes are designed only to keep out light. The cartridge filled with water in just a few seconds after it was submerged. If you still have a a professional photo lab, preferably one with a darkroom and someone who knows how to use it, I would take it there. If the film wasn't exposed to any oxidising chemicals (bleach or peroxide), it may be fine after some special handling. The film in the cartridge naturally is springy and is usually resting in a hollow roll against the outside walls of the cartridge, so resist the urge to turn the cartridge spindle now since the wet film may have welded itself together and turning the spindle could damage it. In the darkroom, I would carefully remove the cartridge end and gently see how easily the roll comes out. If it won't, I would soak the whole thing in plain water for a while and try again. It should soften up and be able to be unrolled to a reel and thoroughly washed. Once clean, they can either develop it manually while still in the reel, or dry it and reload it into a cartridge so it can be sent off to a lab for normal machine processing.

My advice would be to find a camera shop that services pros and ask if they can hand-develop the roll in a tank or can point you at someone who can. Explain what happened; they might suggest an overnight soak in water followed by a couple of rinses and then the usual development process. It will cost more than machine developing, but you'll have the best chance of saving the roll.

I'm pretty late to the game here, but- not knowing if you dried it or not matters a lot.If the film was still wet (swelled gelatin) then we'd probably water bath it and get it into the machine directly, after washing it with photoflo.

MGK plays Cal, Isaac LeMay's son. Kelly's portrayal of Cal in The Last Son is more serious than in previous movies, and he manages to capture Cal's crafty and passionate nature with an intense performance.

Michelle Gwae is a reader, writer, and movie enthuisiast. Her favourite book and movie is Harry Potter. Michelle enjoys curling up on a sofa on a cold day with a warm cup of coffee and watchinng her favorite movies.

Factorization Machines (FM) are a supervised machine learning technique introduced in 2010 (research paper, PDF). FM get their name from their ability to reduce problem dimensionality thanks to matrix factorization.

As the movie industry is one of the influential branches of the media reaching billions of viewers worldwide, they play a great role in shaping the beliefs and opinions of people (Sparks, 2015). Since blockbuster films are those that make money by giving the audience what they want, like, or expect, thus the portrayal of gender roles in blockbuster movies has a direct influence on viewers, possibly reinforcing or contributing to societal gender stereotypes (Ward and Grower, 2020). Thus, in our work, we aim to study and analyse gender bias based on emotions expressed by male and female characters in movies using different Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques. For this purpose, we chose around thirty blockbuster English movies from IMDb (IMDb, 2019) and performed a comparative analysis of the characters. The study is mainly based on the statistical distribution of male and female characters over a certain period and the sentiment and emotions expressed in their dialogues. Through our work, we are trying to present an approach to understanding and promoting studies on the highly prevalent issue of gender inequality in movies. Furthermore, our analysis allows us to help address the global problem of gender inequality and bring positive social change using NLP.

In this module, we convert the scripts of movies from PDF into a machine-readable format. Movie scripts are first converted from PDF into HTML using online tools. Then we process the HTML and separate scenarios and dialogues of each character.

We first used the Stanza package (Qi et al., 2020) to find the sentiment of every dialogue. Stanza is a Python natural language analysis package that supports sentiment analysis on raw text from diverse sources as input. It produces annotations without having to annotate or tokenize the text manually. It is built with a highly accurate CNN classifier pipeline trained on 112 datasets, enabling efficient training and evaluation of annotated data. The reason for using Stanza is that it is built on top of the PyTorch library (Paszke et al., 2019), which gives a high-speed performance on GPU-enabled machines and has better accuracy than other under-optimised models. Stanza classified each dialogue as positive, negative, or neutral. However, more than 70% of the conversations organised by Stanza were neutral. Therefore, Stanza did not provide much information about the bias in male or female characters.

In this study, we have analysed gender representation in a collection of movies and how gender distribution changed over time. Compared to previous works, we rely not only on word vectors but create new embeddings by analysing the emotions associated with these words. We looked into how stereotypes are presented via emotions, making the results more intuitive. Furthermore, we highlighted the hidden bias by using clustering and other ML techniques. The result of this study suggests that although over years the women portrayal have greatly improved, underneath the surface, implicit biases exist. Our clustering results indicate that while the male characters enjoy a variety of emotions when they are portrayed, women are clustered together following the same emotional pattern.

While in United States gun law a "machine gun" is any weapon capable of firing sequential rounds from the same barrel with a single pull of the trigger or any part that renders a weapon capable of such (including auto drop-in sears), the term correctly refers to self-loading support weapons which are designed for sustained automatic fire. A machine gun must fire at least an intermediate round; a fully automatic weapon which fires pistol rounds is either a submachine gun or a machine pistol. An automatic weapon which fires shotgun cartridges is an automatic shotgun. Any weapon which fires rapidly through the use of multiple barrels firing at the same time is a volley gun, not a machine gun.
