In the germline of animals, PIWI interacting (pi)RNAs protect the genome against the detrimental effects of transposon mobilization. In Drosophila, piRNA-mediated cleavage of transposon RNA triggers the production of responder piRNAs via ping-pong amplification. Responder piRNA 3' end formation by the nuclease Zucchini is coupled to the production of downstream trailer piRNAs, expanding the repertoire of transposon piRNA sequences. In Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, piRNAs are generated from viral RNA, yet, it is unknown how viral piRNA 3' ends are formed and whether viral RNA cleavage gives rise to trailer piRNA production. Here we report that in Ae. aegypti, virus- and transposon-derived piRNAs have sharp 3' ends, and are biased for downstream uridine residues, features reminiscent of Zucchini cleavage of precursor piRNAs in Drosophila. We designed a reporter system to study viral piRNA 3' end formation and found that targeting viral RNA by abundant endogenous piRNAs triggers the production of responder and trailer piRNAs. Using this reporter, we identified the Ae. aegypti orthologs of Zucchini and Nibbler, two nucleases involved in piRNA 3' end formation. Our results furthermore suggest that autonomous piRNA production from viral RNA can be triggered and expanded by an initial cleavage event guided by genome-encoded piRNAs.
Team Mekanism was responsible for 99% of all my YT-related PR and directly and indirectly 50%+ of traffic. BitTorrent and my PR that week make up the rest. Mekanism combined extensive PR outreach with early judicious use of TrueView ads and StumbleUpon traffic (Disclosure: I advise StumbleUpon).
To drive widespread awareness of The 4-Hour Chef, Mekanism reached out to credible online influencers to help drive word-of-mouth. Mekanism reached out to bloggers and YouTubers across a variety of verticals relevant to each of the different chapters within the book. For example:
The Tim Ferriss Show is one of the most popular podcasts in the world with more than one billion downloads. It has been selected for "Best of Apple Podcasts" three times, it is often the #1 interview podcast across all of Apple Podcasts, and it's been ranked #1 out of 400,000+ podcasts on many occasions. Getting linked by authority websites is the most important factor to get ranked high by Google result pages. Are press relations and creative agencies more valuable to a muse than an SEO company when it comes to getting ranked higher?
My name is Shaun and I am 23, living in Australia. I wanted to give some thanks! This article was perfectly timed for me as my boss (at my 9-5) has asked me to produce a series of short informative youtube pieces on our company, will be referring to this post frequently.
It would be amazing if you could organise something like a bootcamp, a week, with yourself, sharing experiences eating slow carb, training occams, developing muse generation techniques and just general lifehacking goodness.
Difficult to express how grateful I am. Thanks for having the exceptionally rare combination of digging into extreme experiences during 2-3 years + ability and will of teaching those experiences to replicate in simplest ways.
I am a big fan who just discovered your books and ideas. I am also am seasoned producer and enjoyed reading this post. But I have to say that I feel your title was catchy yet misleading and your post overly self-promotional. You have shared the steps to making a good video, but you have not really made a compelling case study of how someone who is not as famous as you are can get 1 million+ views.
A celebrity like yourself who is a seasoned promoter should expect to reach a million views fairly easily, especially after luring readers to your content this way. But I am afraid the more common man will have great difficulty reaching these numbers following the very few truly viral tips you offered in this post.
Very interesting post indeed. Thanks for taking the time to put it out there for us. Have done a couple of product launches so far, and this is where I still have the steepest hill to climb at the moment ? This will definitely help!
Greetings from Switzerland! Thanks a lot for sharing this Tim, I am thinking about hiring a company to do the book trailer for my language comic book, but I also like that your most popular video is you in your kitchen!
Be interesting on your thoughts of business tips etc for Creatives who provide a creative service. WIth so many variables in providing creative services it can be difficult to figure out a consistent business model.
Your information about how to create a viral book trailer is very awesome and I very like to try it myself so that I can get much more views for any of my lessons as my profession is a teacher. You have shared a very good info about this and I very appreciate it.
Thank you for sharing the step by step videos, diagrams, and cartoon storyboards on creating a book trailer. A lot of thought and work goes into creating an exceptional piece. The end result pays off, nice book trailer!
Valuable info Tim! The post would be a helping hand for the business involved in the beginning stages of a product launch. Various points being made by you in the post could be drawing inspiration. Thanks for the post!
Awesome Everything.I really am inspired, motivated and better informed on how to create and market my book. Thank you so much. You answered many questions, that I had no idea would even come up during a project. I have two very important questions:
My current book project is a Creative Non-Fiction with a story of an abusive family, however each chapter differs showing things such as: Cooking, Poetry, Humour, Friendship, Spirituality and Self-Dicovery. So, how do I determine who is my audience?
In this episode of the School of Motion Podcast, we are joined by Caleb Ward of Curious Refuge to chat about two of their recent and massively successful movie trailers that were created with AI tools like like ChatGPT, Midjourney, D-ID and Eleven Labs. The Wes-Anderson-inspired trailers combine Wes's signature style with Lord of The Rings and Star Wars and quickly gathered millions of views.
KH Studio has made other fake movie trailers, including one for Back to the Future 4 starring Tom Holland and Michael J. Fox and one for a new Edward Scissorhands featuring Timothe Chalamet and Zendaya.
Magic: The Gathering launches at least four new cardsets every year, with the upcoming Throne of Eldraine focused on fairytales. As such, Axis Studios set out to build a fitting aesthetic. Initialconcept art was drawn of a Gothic, Flemish feast overcrowded with food. Naturalisticlighting was later added to complete the look.
Axis Studios began production by evolving the story with more than 25 different character concepts created and considered before the main design was finalised. At the modelling stage, an unprecedented amount of detail went into perfecting the facial expressions of the gingerbread people, from the tiny twitches of his eyebrows, to a vengeful roar.
Altogether, the Throne of Eldraine trailer provides a delightful glimpse into the fantastical world of Magic: The Gathering, using immersive cinematics to further expand the beloved universe for fans.
At this point, you are probably calling me nuts for spending that kind of money (I later spent $5,000 on the trailer for One Blood), but I really believed that to differentiate Sellout from other books in the genre, we needed to do something provocative and different to stand out, and some times you have to pay the cost to be the boss, lol. One of the keys I identified early on was finding a video production partner that knew social media video sharing sites and would help with the uploading of the trailer across the web. In addition, we identified all the other places we could load the trailer from author profile sites, to facebook, to Goodreads, to Amazon. All in all, the Sellout trailer ended up on 50 or so different sites across the web.
Unfortunately, the discussion we looked to generate with the trailer took a long time to manifest. And the viral sharing I expected never really manifested. Even though the trailer won a major book trailer competition and was raking up views in the several thousands on Youtube, there was absolutely no correlation I could draw to sales. But then I began googling the main keywords for Sellout (interracial romance, interracial love, racism, interracial books) and the video kept turning up very high in the search engine rankings. So the video had effectively boosted discoverability for the book!

Rockstar has released the first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 early, and in 12 hours it's already smashed through 60 million views (and counting). Needless to say the 90-second video is jam-packed full of details and hints about what we'll be getting up to in Vice City, and if you want the nuts-and-bolts breakdown we've got you covered. But one element of the trailer really jumped out at me: TikTok framing, and the real-world parallels.
It's no surprise that GTA 6 will incorporate its own version of TikTok, because the series has always jumped on the tech trends of the moment: characters use their iFruit phones, you can surf Live Invader (Facebook) or Bleeter (Twitter), and pretty much any piece of pop culture you can imagine has its GTA equivalent. What Rockstar's seized upon with TikTok feels more in-depth than that though, and a reflection of how TikTokers and people filming constantly is now a fact of contemporary urban life.
