Hi all

Over the years various people have voluntarily translated the 2005 MSC Guide into different languages, as listed below

And we are still looking for volunteers who could do translations into other languages, either of their choice, or from the list of unfinished translations below

Can you help? No payment is available, but kudos and appreciation will be plentiful

regards, rick davies

Dear members of this MSC malling list,

My name Sasquia Antunez Pineda and I am preparing a research proposal for a field study in Honduras juvenile detention centres, already approved by a sponsor organization working in juvenile justice in Honduras (ASJ Honduras). I thought that it would be a good idea to share and get your feedback if this looks like a promising MSC project. I share here my objectives and research questions. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

1.4. Research aims and objectives

This study aims to examine the perspectives of stakeholders in rehabilitation and social reintegration programs in five correctional centers for juvenile offenders in Honduras, including professionals, adults who work directly with adolescents deprived of liberty and young people older than 18 years within the penal system, about the most significant change occurring in two domains: 1) the behaviours and attitudes of adolescents and 2) the way in which rehabilitation and social reintegration programs operate. Thus, the project has as specific objectives:

  1. Understand, from the perspective of the different actors who work closely with incarcerated youth and young people aged 18+ within the penal system, ifhow and why fundamental changes have occurred in the behaviours and attitudes of young offenders in the areas of education, psychological & social skills, comprehensive health, employability, and spiritual development.

  1. Identify in the testimonies of change provided by the different actors the significant changes in the operation of the rehabilitation and social reintegration programs within the detention centers in the last five years.

  1. Identify in the testimonies of change provided by the different actors what mechanisms (situations, conditions, people) could eventually trigger a positive or negative change in the behaviours and attitudes of incarcerated youth.

  1. Initiate a reflective dialogue between stakeholders interested in improving rehabilitation and social reintegration programs for incarcerated youth on the future development of a monitoring and impact evaluation framework for INAMI by incorporating the narrative findings of the present MSC study.

1.5. Research questions

The project will achieve these goals by asking the following four questions:

  1. In the context of the detention centers, what fundamental positive or negative changes have professionals, adults working with adolescents, and young people over 18 years of age within the penal system have observed in the behaviours and attitudes of incarcerated adolescents in terms of schoolwork, mental health, physical health, social relationships with family and friends, participation in pro-social recreational activities, employability, and spiritual development?

  1. What significant changes have occurred in the operation of rehabilitation and social reintegration programs within Honduras the detention centers in the last five years?

  1. What are the mechanisms of change identified in the testimonies of significant change?

  1. What recommendations do stakeholders interested in improving rehabilitation and social reintegration programs for incarcerated youth in Honduras have for the future development of monitoring and evaluation process for INAMI’s programs through the incorporation of the findings of this MSC study?
