Reflecting on this discussion with Chat GPT prompted me to think about what seems to be a big gap in the academic / published literature on the use of MSC. A lot of research-oriented uses (and then publications) tend to skip the use of selection panels when using the MSC technique. Instead, they focus on content analyses of the collected MSC stories, something which is usually undertaken by the researcher themselves. In effect, they are hardly doing MSC at all, if we think about selection is being at the heart of the MSC process.

But, putting that comment aside, it does seem that there is a big practically relevant research opportunity here that needs to be explored and exploited. That is, to research the dialogic process which is going on within selection panels. Not only to examine how people participate but more specially the different kinds of discussions that take place. I can think of three types, which relate to a typology of evaluation questions.

·         Descriptions of what people think and say what happened

·         Explanations of what happened, what and who caused what

·         Valuations of what was most significant and why so
