New York City

Hotshoe is excited to return to The Photography Show at the Park Avenue Armory this month, which will take place from April 22-26th. In the spirit of travel, we thought we’d share with you some of our favourite spots in the city; from our most loved bookshops for browsing to great places for a bite to eat, and a few exhibitions we can't wait to see.

What's happening?

ICP, Hard Copy New York (until May 4th)

Hard Copy New York, an exhibition featuring multiple high profile photographers curated by Aaron Stern and David Campany, is part of Stern’s ongoing project exploring the contemporary use of the photocopied image. The show features works by Daniel Arnold, Zoe Ghertner and Gray Sorrenti, among others.

Leica Gallery NYC - Phil Penman: Street Scenes (April 2 - May 17)

British-born street photographer Phil Penman presents a series of dramatic New York street photographs drawn from his latest book. Expect cinematic light and a love letter to the chaos of the city. The show opened with a reception and book signing in early April.

We’re excited for this one! One of the biggest photography events of the year. The AIPAD Photography Show brings together dozens of international galleries—from historical masters to contemporary work—turning the Park Avenue Armory into a sprawling photography fair filled with exhibitions, talks and book signings. Come and see us at Booth P11 and grab the latest Hotshoe copy!

Where to Eat and Drink and Shop

Scarr’s for the ‘best slice in NYC’— tried and tested, Hotshoe approved!

Or if you’re feeling a little fancy, you’ll love The Odeon - delicious and always very busy.

Recently opened Ellafunt has become a hotspot if you love to people-watch while also indulging in a steak frites.

A bit of a cliché, but Fanelli’s Café in Soho still remains an iconic spot for a late night martini and a side of fries, obviously.

@fanellis

Situated in the East Village is The York, a super cute cocktail bar, with a specialty in tasty tiny burgers — we returned twice in a week, need I say more…

@theyorknyc

We also adore The Flower Shop — with their leopard print snooker tables, you’re in for a fun night.

Design Desire…

Then check out Coming Soon in the Lower East Side — a slightly chaotic design playground, with a mix of vintage furniture, ceramics, glassware & more. Expect bold colours and quirky gifts.

We also love Lichen in Ridgewood, a space that feels more like a design studio than a shop — this is a cult favourite among designers and architects. You’ll find vintage furniture, experimental lighting and collectible objects.
