Introducing the Paid Edition of Studio NotesIntroducing a deeper layer for those who want more
Nothing will really change for readers who prefer the free version of this newsletter. You will still receive the Monthly Inspiration, the General News updates and the podcast without any paywall. These remain open to everyone, just as they have always been. Alongside the free edition, I am introducing a paid layer to Studio Notes. I want to explain clearly what this means and why I am doing it. Studio Notes has become an important part of my creative practice. It is where I slow down, reflect and give language to work that is otherwise purely visual. Over the past months I noticed that there is room to go deeper, but that depth requires time, structure and careful writing. A paid edition allows me to create that structure and to increase the quality of what I publish here. Thanks for reading Studio Notes! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. The paid edition is not designed to make me rich. It is designed to make this publication better. It helps me dedicate real time to writing, editing and preparing the kind of pieces that are impossible to create in a rushed moment between projects. By adding a paid layer, I can build a steady rhythm and offer work that carries the same intention and care as the images I make in the studio. What stays free• Monthly Inspiration • General News • The podcast • Occasional shorter updates These remain open to everyone. The heart of the newsletter stays accessible. What becomes part of the paid edition• Long form Long form pieces about looking, making, printing and the role of images in a fast world. These texts take time to shape and belong in a place where they can unfold with attention. • Studio deep dives Background stories behind ongoing series, from Henro to Echo from Beyond and new work. These pieces show the thinking, doubts, experiments and decisions that guide the work before it becomes a finished image. • Insights into books and editions Notes on sequencing, paper, formats, printmaking, edition strategy and the structure behind a body of work. • Project previews Early looks at upcoming releases, from the Japan project to new books and series. • Q and A sessions A space where paid readers can ask questions about practice, process, materials, strategy or anything related to the work. • Occasional tools and practical notes Frameworks, checklists and small resources I use in my own process. • Full archive access All earlier posts and essays will be available only to paid subscribers, so the full development of Studio Notes can be explored without limits. The paid edition is for people who want to sit closer to the work. Artists, collectors, students, designers, photographers, musicians and anyone who cares about the ideas behind an image. I see this expansion as a natural evolution of Studio Notes. It allows me to bring the same attention I bring to my prints and books into the written part of my practice. If you choose to join the paid edition, I appreciate it deeply. If you prefer to stay with the free version, I am grateful you are here as well. Either way, thank you for reading and for giving these words a place in your day. — Bastiaan Thanks for reading Studio Notes! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
