PhotoIreland - Photography in Ireland
PhotoIreland Grant Aiders Sponsors

David Farrell and Cristina De Middel at the
International Centre for the Image

Running 18 October-23 December 2025
Launch
2pm Saturday 25th October 2025
At International Centre for the Image, Coopers Cross, Dublin 1

Irish artist David Farrell presents a new body of work on looking and the subliminal thoughts of a wandering mind in a solo exhibition Solastalgia.

A decade after the Irish premiere of The Afronauts during PhotoIreland Festival, De Middel returns to Dublin with another premiere of her latest work. Journey to the Center presents the Central American migration route across Mexico as a heroic and daring journey, rather than a runaway.

Meanwhile, the Dummy Award 2025 is open to the public, running until 26th October.

PhotoIreland in Prague 2025 with FUTURES Artists

PhotoIreland in Prague 2025 with FUTURES Artists

Running 3-5 October 2025

The three-day program will include exhibition launches, workshops, portfolio reviews, and networking moments.

As publishing partner this year, PhotoIreland will launch the special FUTURES edition of OVER Journal. This issue of OVER is a collaborative editorial project devised by four member organisations of FUTURES—the European Photography Platform: Fotograf Zone, Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Centre, Centre Photographique Rouen Normandie, and PhotoIreland.

Proposals Accepted for Library Fellowship with the PhotoIreland Collection

PhotoIreland is launching a new fellowship programme to invite individuals to engage with and mediate the PhotoIreland Collection housed at the International Centre for the Image. The opportunity is open annually to two individuals who will receive a fee and will benefit from access to the facilities as well as guidance from the PhotoIreland team. The recipients are requested to produce a public outcome following the conclusion of the fellowship, which will be defined and created in collaboration with the Centre’s curatorial team. The opportunity is open to applications from artists, researchers, curators, or other cultural practitioners.

Submissions Deadline: 5pm Friday 28 November 2025

Call for Works: HALFTONE Print Fair

The 11th Edition of HALFTONE Print Fair will be hosted for its longest run period to date of 28 November 2025–25 January 2026 at The Library Project.

HALFTONE is an initiative by PhotoIreland, hosted every year at The Library Project. Every edition, the fair brings together a large selection of works by established and emerging artists, showcasing Ireland’s exciting art scene. PhotoIreland has raised almost €100,000 for artists through HALFTONE since 2015, supporting and promoting the practice of over 800 participating artists to date, shipping their work internationally, and contributing to public and private collections.

Applications are now invited from fine art printers, illustrators, designers, photographers, and all visual artists and creatives to submit works produced since 2023, to be displayed and sold at the HALFTONE Print Fair.

Submissions Deadline: 6pm Sunday 19 October 2025

Text Commissions: Building the Museum from the Library

Framed under the title Building the Museum from the Library: The book as an art object within Art collections, PhotoIreland has commissioned a series of essays by distinguished international contributors. The project examines the significance of the book as an art object, with particular attention to artist books, art books, and photobooks.

The commissioned essays will be published exclusively online in stages and subsequently compiled in a single volume, marking the culmination of the project.

Read first two texts by Markus Schaden and Russet Lederman and find out about the context of the commission online now.

Save the Date: Critical Beans returns to Centre Culturel Irlandais

Pre-Orders: OVER Journal issues 4 and 5

Pre-orders are now open for OVER Journal issue 4 and a FUTURES special issue 5, launching and shipping from mid October.

OVER journal critically focuses on aspects often overlooked that affect the discipline, zooming out to observe the whole scene, to analyse what exactly is happening, what power relationships are at play. It is about preventing the repetition of obsolete and flawed structures, as much as highlighting the work of those who constructively are expanding what we still call Photography into new horizons. More than a portfolio magazine, it is a space for reflection on new practices and new ways of thinking.

PhotoIreland Support System

Do you know what PhotoIreland does?

PhotoIreland grows the reputation of Irish artists globally through a 360 degree support system and platform for contemporary photography, activated through a diversity of projects. These include events such as PhotoIreland Festival and Halftone print fair amongst others; resources such as the PhotoIreland Collection, a specialised research library of photobooks, and Ireland’s Art Bookshop, The Library Project; via publishing with projects such as OVER Journal and TLP Editions; professional development support through networking and consultancy opportunities; and empowering early and mid-career photographers via our international partnerships, most relevantly through Creative Europe co-funded platforms such as FUTURES and Parallel.
