just over a week now. If the weather stay like this it should be a nice ride. The long range forecast is predicting clear days either side of our ride and medium chance of a small amount of rain on the southern tablelands for the Friday. No news on the keys stat.. the wind direction yet

So there a few other details we need to sort out.

Will Daz have enough space for a small day pack each in the Daz Mobile?

Return trip on Saturday 

who will have spare seats/bike racking to take people back on Saturday morning? In past years the Newing 'bus' and bike transporter have been available but this will not be the case this year.

Accomodation

who has sorted their accommodation out and where are people staying if they want to book at the same place?

Is anyone looking to split the cost and share a room?

At the moment I believe the ride start details are

Wollongong Start - 4am Unanderra Pool

Moss Vale start - at the turning bay next to the clock tower with the plan to start 7am or once the Wollongong starters are ready.

Finally could everyone send through their mobile number plus the name and number for an emergency contact. We have a diverse group riding and not everyone will know these sort of details.

Also, just a note to remind everyone that this is not an official ride associated with any organisation. We are all participating for fun and doing so at our own risk. It is highly recommended that those participating are registered with one of the cycling organisation such as Bicycle NSW or The Bike Network as as such covered by the insurance that comes with membership of one of these organisations.

I’m fairly certain all the day packs will make it in the Daz Mobile – if not we will make it fit ;)

 

Riders heading up from Wollongong can leave their day pack at my place from Thursday… 2 Koorabel Ave West Wollongong.  If no one is home, drop around the back patio area.

 

For the return leg I am driving the daz mobile back Saturday morning as I have a thing on Saturday night.  This means I have 4 spots available for humans, and 3 spots for bikes on my bike carrier.  If someone has a thule roof bike carrier they are willing to loan I could put one more bike on the roof or maybe even a third)

 

First in best dressed as they say for the ride home on Saturday… however I could be open to bribes ;)

I may start from the pool,  possibly the pie shop, possibly Moss Vale, possibly Bungendore, most likely start 5km out of Canberra  depending how my legs respond to a long-ish ride this weekend.

Hi All,

late news... Luke Meers is now apparently a starter and will be joining the crew starting from Unanderra Pool car park at 4am.

Just as a recap for Luke...

• Here is the route for the day - https://www.strava.com/routes/8367138
• 4am leaving Unanderra Pool, 7am leaving Moss Vale
• The aim is to finish no later than 5PM and to set a medium steady pace from the start.
• This is a no drop ride so we will try to keep the bunch together, wait at top of climbs to regroup etc.
• We do have a support car that can take a small day pack with gear (let us know if you want the details of where to drop it off on Thursday night)
• There will be scheduled stops at Moss Vale, Wingello (10mins), Marulan for M/Tea (30mins), Tarago lunch (1hour), Bungendore for A/Tea (30mins) and at the top os Smiths Gap climb to regroup and refuel. Others stops will occur as we feel we need them.
  
• As stated in earlier email this is not an official ride associated with any organisation. We are all participating for fun and doing so at our own risk. It is highly recommended that those participating are registered with one of the cycling organisation such as Bicycle NSW or The Bike Network as as such covered by the insurance that comes with membership of one of these organisations.

Hi all,

Just an email to introduce myself, you can find me on strata under Scott D , I just have to accept your request. I am planning on riding from Unanderra as well. from the look of it I am the weakest in the bunch leaving from there. My rides are usually 150 - 200 km Week, On average for the year I do 200km a week,  normally at least one of those rides is 100km  plus, pretty much every ride I do has a keira, macquarie, bald or saddleback thrown in. Done 200km ride recently with a Macquarie thrown in, felt pretty good throughout it. I just want to challenge myself more by going from Unanderra group instead of Mossvale as its working towards some other cycling goals later in the year, if thats ok with everyone.

Looking forward to the ride - only 7 big sleeps to go - and no medical certificate required! 

I've been preparing for weeks - I sent Lise off to Kosciusko to do some altitude training in the mountains earlier this week so that we can sit behind her as we get closer to Canberra -assuming she doesn't drop us! I've ordered a spare chain in case young Chris double flips his on the final big hill like he did last year. I've tactfully suggested to my dad that I drive to Moss Vale to avoid the stomach issues that resulted from the drive last year. I even spent $15 on a "no-2-all-over" aero haircut!

As ready as it gets.

I am officially concerned.

Is it too late to start training?

I have not climbed Saddleback for about 5 years

Not climbed Mac Pass for over 2 years

And I haven't even climbed Kiera at all this year

But I did beat Duncan on a Thursday ride by 7 seconds!! (I clipped in from the last lights quicker than he did!)

So I'm as ready as ever - Thank you Scott D for being the lead out man - I'm gonna need it

Anyone leaving from Wollongong can drop overnight bags, spare wheels or whatever the day/night before. Hoping to have a b4b trailer that they can be piled in. At any rate I’ll make the drop location at our place obvious so bags don’t (ahem) get left behind       

Otherwise transfers to said trailer can occur in Moss Vale. 

4am at Unanderra pool is the usual start time/location. 

Kirk, do you want to relink the contact details sheet so eveyone can fill out and I can print off and keep in car for any emergencies?

Gday guys! looking fwd to meeting you guys thruout the day if we havent already met !

ive been doing a bit of a Matt Hayman approach to the ride with a fair few k,s on Zwift (wahoo kicker just like a real ride:-) kids on holidays and shift work hasnt made my prep as well as id like.

This will be my biggest adventure to date so praying that the legs will hold out..but ive heard its all downhill after Mcqaurie pss ! is this correct ??have done a cple rides around 200k so hoping i can hang in there

although winds arent looking ideal..As with most of the rides ive ridden with you guys ,the harder challenges make the rides more memorable like last years gong syd to gong rained most of the way.anywho could prob talk all day but will leave it there for now. God bless  and see you on fri nice and early !!!

Morning all. Latest forecast is for westerlies up to 45k which is a headwind for us. Good news is we have a big group so we can share the joy around.  Even more important that we stick together. Time on your own off the back in such conditions will be a killer. So don't die in silence. Call 'ease up' if you need it. As with all calls, that needs to be passed up the line. No heroics required on the front either. Pull off before you start to tire. Stronger riders can take longer turns. If you are not feeling strong roll thru to the front for just a few hundred metres then roll off. 

The exception to all this is on the bigger climbs where it's natural for the bunch to splinter. Regroup at the top.

Hi all

Thanks to Team Newing and Jim Blaxland, we have secured a bike carrying super trailer with capacity for 6 bikes, plus an additional 3 on the roof racks. Unfortunately, only 3 spare seats in the support car so you’ll have to time your blow outs or travel in the trailer itself if you get tired!

Those wanting to throw day supplies, overnight bags, spare wheels or supplies can do so from now up till about 5am Friday morning at the address below. Peel pack the canvas cover on the trailer and stuff it in - no need to announce your arrival. Otherwise transfers can occur in Moss Vale.

Finally I will be printing off the ride spreadsheet shortly. It looks pretty up to date but maybe have one more check?
