A great shame Mr Moodie but judging by the latest forecast maybe quite smart.

Seriously folks we should tour the county as a drought-breaking outfit.

Bad luck Col.

Dave I was just looking at the forecast as well and it seems to have gone downhill since this morning, might add some weight to considering an undercover lunch stop.

Yes the weather prospect has moved from ordinary to yuck. Might add some weight to staying home in bed!

I think the rest stop plan is still up for debate although I have confirmed that Johnnos has an indoor dining area which will seat up to 20. Still haven’t seen a menu yet

Col, that is sad news. Hope you recover quickly.
Actually, looking at the forecast I may have also sustained a nasty injury which might keep me in bed that day! ;-)

Hi All,
I've been holding off for a few days waiting for a clearer picture but it now, due to a few issues with bub, looks very likely the my daughter Lauren will be induced in the next few days. This means Karen and I are driving to Melbourne sometime tomorrow and will be there until mid June. Yep, unfortunately that means I'm also pulling the plug for Friday.  Lauren is actually due on the 22nd of May and we were planning on driving to Melbourne Friday next week but the doctors don't want to leave it that long now. The good news is that Karen and I will soon have our first grandchild.

I will continue to facilitate things fro the ride this week and just want to remind everyone that a few years ago Dave Reynolds and one other pulled out on the Wednesday before the ride due to the poor weather forecast and, on the day, we had rain showers through the southern highlands but by Marulan the sun started to come out and the rest of the day was a nice comfortable temperature with favorable winds. MUCH nicer all round than last years ride.
Regards,

Kirk

Hi Kirk sorry to hear that you will not be joining us on Friday, you will be missed.
Praying  for safe travel for you and Karen on route to Melbourne and praying for a safe delivery for Lauren and the baby.
Woot woot first grandchild : )
We look forward to hearing your news.

Thankyou for all the organizing that you have done again for the Friday ride.

(If you wouldn’t mind organizing some sunshine for Friday before you leave ; )

Hi all

Kirk, wonderful family news!

Weather forecast does look dire, not just rain but thunderstorms as well. Perhaps some thinking about a contingency plan may be in order?

Happy to stand corrected but I don’t believe anybody HAS to do this ride. I assume those that are doing B4B would have alternative means for getting to Canberra for the Saturday start. If it’s going to rain all day that’s not just unpleasant it’s also unsafe so I’d suggest that cancellation should be considered a live option.

Ohhh no that sucks guys, I know how much good training and hard work you have put in too Col.

I have just spoken with Kirk and seen his email, fantastic exciting news but a bit sad losing our captain for our ride.

Also just seen a few emails regarding pulling out or contingency plans if the weather is too poor, im still keen to do it at this stage but happy to call it if others feel the weather is not going to be worth it.

Make a call Thursday afternoon?

So if it still goes ahead are the Unanderra crew still leaving at 3:45 from the Pools? We lost two Derra Crew members but I still have 4 of us riding up to meet the others at Moss Vale.

  • Steve Bowden
  • David Reynolds
  • Andy Smith
  • Luke Palma

I’m trying to remain positive regarding the weather, at least the wind will be more favorable with a Northerly most of the early morning and it doesn’t appear to be too cold, 13.8 at 7am at Moss Vale.

Hopefully we don’t get too wet and if we do we can change at the lunch break and the afternoon forecast looks much clearer, only 50% chance of rain from 10am then less from lunch in Tarago.

4, maybe 5 years ago I was the sole starter from Wollongong and it started raining at Dapto, A Unique cycling experience is to climb Mac pass with a bow wave of water running off your front wheel at 5 oclock on a late Autumn morning - all you lot running scared should reconsider on whether to miss this rare opportunity.

Given I already have this one on my CV, if its fine I plan to ride as far as maybe Marulan then join my good friend Daz in a suitable cafe before the long roll home.

3:45 or 4 ? I recall getting into MV before 7 in previous years.
