We also want to be sure your pet is as healthy as possible when they leave the shelter. If he or she already has their rabies vaccination, please send a photo of their rabies certificate or let us know where they got their vaccination so we can verify that. If your pet has not received their rabies vaccination recently, don't worry! We can help you with that before we send them home with you. Finally, if your pet wasn't microchipped, we've taken care of that as well so they can get back home to you as fast as possible should they become lost again in the future.
The UPD Property Clerk retrieves lost and found items from both the Student Union's Information Desk, the Library Circulation Desk, and the Mashouf Wellness Center. All other lost and founds have minimal contact with UPD.

The Chesterfield County Police Department's Animal Services Unit offers a free ride home to any dog or cat wearing a tag that displays its owner's information. The program, which is operated at no cost to the pet owner, reunites lost dogs and cats with their owners.
Due to incidents of a highly contagious respiratory disease affecting dogs in our care, all San Diego Humane Society campuses (including San Diego, El Cajon, Escondido and Oceanside locations) are pausing the intake of owner-surrendered dogs until Jan. 2, 2024, except in emergencies that threaten the health of the pet. We also request that all relinquishments of other species be made by appointment only. Guests who have lost their items while visiting Allegiant Stadium are encouraged to visit the Guest Experience Headquarters located on the main 100 level concourse next to the Ford North Entry. Talk to your neighbors to let them know you found a pet. Most lost pets are found within one to two miles of their home, chances of their home being close to where you found them is good. If you found a dog, walk it on a leash through the neighborhood, you might find the owner searching for their dog.

Lost and Found receives items left at security checkpoints the following business day. Click on the New Report link to file a lost property report. Our Lost and Found software solution will compare specific criteria from lost property reports with found property that has been registered in our software for matching purposes. TSA does not deliver confiscated items to the Lost and Found.
Turn in the property to SEA Airport Lost and Found as soon as possible to give the owner a better chance of reclaiming their property. We do not accept reports for found items and cannot reunite owners with their property without a detailed description and the property in our possession. If after hours, use the phone outside the lost and found window to report the found item.
SEA Airport uses a Lost and Found software solution that assists in finding the owners of lost property and researches items for identifying information and characteristics. Once a property has been matched with the owner, email notification or phone call will be sent to the owner and they will be given restoration options.

Anteater Express turns over all lost and found items to the UCI Police Department the following morning after the item has been turned in. While we understand the frustration of misplacing an item, Anteater Express drivers are not permitted to call other drivers or staff to locate lost and found items.

I am not sure what exactly that means, but it seems to indicate that not having lost+found might cause trouble on recovery. Furthermore it indicates that lost+found different from a regular directory in that it has preallocated blocks associated with it.
You don't want to delete the lost+found directory.
It is an important system folder and will be recreated on next boot anyway. There is some pretty good explanation of why it is there and what it does here
