Dear all,
This email is to inform you that the deadline for submissions to the ETT (Emerging Topics in Typology 2026) conference has been extended. The new deadline is 15 March 2026. Please also note that, in addition to PhD students, Master’s students or graduates are welcome to submit proposals.
Meeting description:
Following the success of previous editions in Helsinki (2021), Stockholm (2024), and Leipzig (2025), Emerging Topics in Typology (ETT) will return for its fourth edition in 2026, this time at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, from 15 to 17 July 2026.
ETT is a conference organised by and for PhD students in linguistic typology and diversity linguistics. We welcome abstracts on a range of topics in diversity linguistics (quantitative and qualitative typology, language documentation and description), and particularly welcome talks on ongoing projects and works in progress.
A core feature of ETT is its mentoring system. Each accepted talk is assigned a senior researcher with relevant expertise, who serves as a mentor and provides feedback to the speaker prior to the conference.
Conference registration will be free for all participants, and will be open to anyone with an interest in the conference topics (including non-PhD students). Registration will open on 12 April 2026.
Invited Keynote Speakers
Dr Anna Sjöberg (Stockholm University)
Dr Andreas Hölzl (University of Potsdam)
Dr Luca Ciucci (University of Passau)
In addition to the invited keynote presentations, the conference will include an opening lecture by Prof. Dr. Walter Bisang.
Call for Papers
Abstracts should be a maximum of 500 words (excluding references). Additional examples and figures (up to one A4 page in total) may also be included. Abstracts should clearly demonstrate a connection to typological and/or descriptive research. The call for abstracts is open to all currently enrolled doctoral students.
Submissions should be made via Sciencesconf: https://ett-2026.sciencesconf.org. We recommend uploading a self-prepared PDF rather than using the platform?s automatic abstract generator.
Submission deadline: 15 March 2026
Notification of acceptance: 12 April 2026
Accepted abstracts will be presented as 20-minute oral presentations, followed by 10 minutes of discussion.
