It’s springtime, which means lots of cute animal babies are out and exploring at the zoo.  This year’s litters included Chacoan peccaries, peninsular pronghorns, and, the newest ram of Los Angeles.
Please join Mosaic Outdoors Club of Greater Los Angeles for a scenic walk thru the Los Angeles Zoo for viewing the animal babies, as well as Billy the Elephant in his new multi-million dollar home, Bruno the Orangutan who picks college football championship winners, and Cajun Kate, the new mate for Reggie (the alligator who terrorized residents of Harbor City four years ago).

The walk is about 3 miles round trip, on paved road, with about 100 feet of elevation gain and is rated easy.

See lots of wildlife and colorful flowers.  And, of course, meet many fun new people.

You are cordially invited to join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater Los Angeles on a hike to the top of Sandstone Peak, the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains, at 3111 feet. David Moezinia will lead this moderate rated hike -- 5.8 miles with 1400 feet elevation gain via a loop trail through the Circle-X Ranch. We'll hike along one of the Leader's favorite trails, Misha Mokwa trail to the summit, and return via the fire road and the Misha Mokwa connector; highlights include the spectacular Echo Cliffs where rock climbers ascend shear cliffs, "Balancing Rock" a house sized boulder delicately balanced on a small rock beneath, "Split Rock" a giant split rock where kids can dash between the sheer walls, stunning giant sandstone formations, and breathtaking views from the top of Sandstone Peak and Inspiration point. We will have lunch at the Summit before starting back to our cars.

Chino Hills SP Hike and Optional Dinner in Yorba Linda, Sunday, January 8th, 2012 at 1:00 P.M.

Escape the pressures of urban life and find peace and solitude in a natural setting!

Join MOSAIC Outdoors Club of Greater Los Angeles for a moderate 7-8 miles loop with about 700’ gain/loss in the Chino Hills State Park. The park is a premier natural open-space area in the hills of Santa Ana Canyon near Riverside, and a critical link in the Puente-Chino Hills biological corridor. It encompasses stands of oaks, sycamores and rolling, grassy hills that stretch nearly 31 miles, from the Santa Ana Mountains to the Whittier Hills. Chino Hills is vitally important as a refuge to many species of plants, and as a link between natural areas essential to the survival of many animal species. Optional Dinner after the hike; we’ll decide as a group where we will go.

PLEASE NO TURTLES, NO TIGERS! This is about a 7-8 mile hike with around 700' of elevation gain, so you should be in pretty good shape. Plan on around 4 hours for the entire hike. I would not recommend it for beginners.

        Rain cancels, but clouds don't.

For park descriptions and/or closures check http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=648 or call 951-780-6222.
