Hike and Potluck Dinner:  Nike Missile Tower Via Westridge, Sunday, May 25th, 2014 4:45 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Please join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater Los Angeles and JOA for this 7.5 mile round trip hike up to the Nike Missile Tower. The hike is on a fire road, uphill to the top, where we will gather at picnic tables for a pot luck dinner. The Nike Missile Site has great views, along with bathrooms and running water. The hike goes uphill gently, has around 1000 ft of elevation, and is appropriate for energetic beginners. It is rated as moderate due to the distance.

IMPORTANT: All MOSAIC events require participants to sign a Liability Release Waiver at the event location. If you would like to read the waiver before the event, you can do so at http://www.mosaicla.org/signin.pdf. Please email the event leader if you have any questions about this.

HIKE MEETING PLACE:
Mandeville Canyon Trail Head (end of Westridge Rd.):

HIKE START TIME:    We will meet at 4:45 PM, wait 15 minutes as a courtesy, then begin hiking at 5 P.M.  SHARP!!

HIKE END TIME:        9:00 P.M.

BRING:                      Be sure to bring water (two liters recommended), sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, a pot luck item to share if you wish, and and a jacket, sweater or windbreaker, as it may get cool, and/or windy.

FOOTWEAR:             Hiking boots or trail running shoes recommended, ABSOLUTELY NO sandals or other open-toe shoes, flip flops, casual shoes or high heels.

DIRECTIONS TO TRAIL HEAD:
From I-405:
Exit Sunset Blvd WEST.
Go WEST on Sunset Blvd for 2.3 miles.
RIGHT turn onto Mandeville Canyon Rd.  Go 0.3 miles, then
FIRST LEFT onto Westridge Rd.
Go 2.3 miles to the end of Westridge Rd, then park on street
Check parking signs for any restrictions (none known at the time of this posting).

CARPOOL POINTS:

We will carpool from the West side, the Valley and Orange County (See beIow).

West LA Carpool
We will carpool from Trader Joe's - 10850 National Boulevard (at Westwood). There is plenty of parking on the side streets - do not park in the Trader Joe's lot. Meet in the upper Trader Joe's lot at 3:00 P.M. and leave at 3:15 P.M. SHARP. PLEASE NOTE: Be prepared to form your own carpools if there are no Mosaic representatives.

Valley Carpool
We will meet in Sherman Oaks, 15410 Ventura Blvd, at the Union 76 Gas Station across from Marriot Courtyard Hotel (on Ventura Blvd. just west of the 405 Fwy.). Meet at 3:00 P.M. and leave at 3:15 P.M. SHARP. PLEASE NOTE: Be prepared to form your own carpools if there are no Mosaic representatives.

Long Beach/West Orange County Carpool
We will carpool from BEHIND CVS Pharmacy - 12490 Seal Beach Blvd Seal Beach, CA 90740-2711 (at Saint Cloud). There is plenty of parking BETWEEN the CVS Pharmacy and the Ralph's. There is a Starbuck's and various other restaurants and stores such as ZPizza, Togo's, Islands, Target, etc. in the same parking lot. Meet in the parking lot behind the CVS Pharmacy at 2:00 P.M. and leave at 2:15 P.M. SHARP. PLEASE NOTE: Be prepared to form your own carpools if there are no Mosaic representatives.
