Hike to Switzer Falls, Sunday, July 15th, 2012 at 9:30 A.M.
Please join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater Los Angeles and Jewish Outdoor Adventures on this intermediate hike to Switzer Falls. Come
share in the beauty of this paradise so close to L.A. View remnants of
the resort that once catered to celebrities. David Moezina will lead this
4 miles round trip hike along the Arroyo Seco stream. We
will pass by a number of natural pools and visit the falls on our hike
back. There is a steep ¼ mile incline at the end of the hike, which can
be avoided by parking at the lower parking lot. We may swim in the pools
so bring a bathing suit and towel. Long sleeves recommended due to
possible dense brush on some parts of the trail, and possible poison oak.
PLEASE NOTE: A Wilderness Parking Permit is required and can be obtained at the Clear Creek Info station. Carpooling is highly recommended due to limited parking. You can also find a location to purchase the parking permit at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/ap/

BRING: Water (two liters recommended), hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, Lunch, a snack to share, daypack, hiking sticks or hiking poles. Long pants and long sleeved shirt are recommended due to possible dense brush on some parts of the trail, and possible poison oak. Clothes should be loose fitting, and light-colors are preferable. We may swim in the pools so bring a bathing suit, water shoes and a towel.
FOOTWEAR: Hiking boots or trail running shoes are recommended. ABSOLUTELY NO sandals or other open-toe shoes, flip flops, casual shoes or high heels. Bring a pair of water shoes in case we go swimming.

Fwy 10E approx. 6 miles to
(exit 13B) FWY 110N 4 miles to (Exit 26A) FWY 5N towards Sacramento
2 miles to (Exit 139A) FWY 2N 8 miles towards Glendale, merge onto FWY
210E 1 mile to Angeles Crest Highway (Exit 20) for CA-2/Angeles Crest Highway
N. Left at the light, 10 miles to trail head. You will pass the
junction of Angeles Crest & Angeles Forest (N3) highways and the Clear
Creek Info station (on your right). A half a mile past info station, turn
right at the entrance to Switzer Picnic area (mile marker 34.19).
We will
meet at the trail head in the parking lot below. If the lower lot is
full, backtrack and park in one of the turn-off areas along the road and walk
down to the lower parking lot.
Wilderness
parking permit is required and can be obtained at the Clear Creek Info
station. You can

Hike Mount Baldy via The Devil’s Backbone Trail (Ski Lift + hike), Sunday, July 22nd, 2012 at 8:30 A.M.
Please join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater Los Angeles and Jewish Outdoor Adventures on this STRENUOUS hike to Mount Baldy via the Devil’s Backbone Trail. We will take the ski lift (open chair lift; fee $20 roundtrip) to the mountain station of Mount Baldy (7,800’), where we will begin our hike. We will hike the Devils Backbone trail to the summit of Mount Baldy at 10,064’. This is the highest point on the San Gabriel Mountains. We will return the same way via the ski lift. There are spectacular views of both the San Gabriel and the Antelope valleys from the mountain. David Moezina will lead this Strenuous 6.4 miles round trip. Be prepared for variable weather. We may have an early dinner at a local restaurant after the hike. Plan your car pools accordingly.

Please allow plenty of time flexibility when participating in our hikes / activities!
If you are unsure of your fitness level please join us on one of our easier hikes before doing any advanced hikes. We would recommend that you can walk at least 6 miles before coming on any of our hikes.
It is not appropriate to RSVP for an event and not show up. Members can be terminated for repeated offenses.

Lake Hollywood Walk
and Picnic, Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 10:30 A.M.
Please join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater Los Angeles for a walk
around Lake Hollywood
and a picnic at Lake
Hollywood Park
which is nearby in the Hollywood Hills.
The walk is a little over 5 miles on level ground starting from the top
of the Lake.
At the bottom of the Lake is Mulholland Dam which offers both a breath
taking view of Los Angeles
and the Hollywood Sign. On the way, back
we will head over to Lake
Hollywood Park
for a picnic which is on a hill. The walk
and picnic will probably last about 3 and half hours.

WALK MEETING PLACE: On Lake Hollywood Dr
across the fork in the road and across from the driveway used by the Los
Angeles Department of Water and Power on the northwest tip of the Lake. If you have
GPS or internet mapping, the coordinates are -118.336 degrees longitude, 34.129
degrees latitude.
WALK START TIME: Meet at the trailhead at 10:30 A.M. (directions below); leave at 10:40 A.M. SHARP!!
WALK END TIME: 2:00 P.M.
BRING: Water (two liters

jacket, sweater or windbreaker, as it may get cool, and/or windy. Plus bring a
lunch for the picnic!

Take Hollywood Freeway (US 101) to Barham Blvd. At Barham Blvd, head north to Lake Hollywood Dr and then turn right. Then go on Lake Hollywood Dr to the meeting place. Place close attention to the street signs, since it is very easy to make a wrong turn onto another street.

West LA Carpool
We will carpool from Trader Joe's - 10850 National Boulevard (at Westwood). There is plenty of parking on the side streets - do not park in the Trader Joe's lot. Explore the rich and complex history of one of the world’s oldest Jewish communities. See archaeological artifacts, impressive illuminated manuscripts and ketubot, beautiful Judiaca and amulets, ceremonial garments, musical instruments, paintings, photographs, videos, and historical documents that showcase the complex and fascinating story of Iranian Jews and the beauty of Judeo-Persian traditions. This sweeping survey concludes with Hasan Sarbakhshian’s photographs of Jews remaining in Iran today and installations by artists Shelley Gazin and Jessica Shokrian about the dynamic community of Iranian Jews in Los Angeles. Silver Lake
Staircase and Reservoir
Walk, Sunday, February 3, 2013, 9:45 AM to 1:00 PM
Please join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater Los Angeles for a pre-Super Bowl walk in beautiful Silver Lake, led by Stewart Chesler. First we will explore the area just east along the Silver Lake Reservoir. During this part of the walk, we will travel up and down five stairways and admire the rich architecture in the neighborhood. Then we will walk around the Reservoir itself. The entire walk is just over 4 miles and will take about 2 to 2.5 hours. Then afterwards we enjoy snacks along a park by the Reservoir.
