Moderate Passover Hike to Mt. Hollywood, Sunday, April 8th, 2012

Come join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Los Angeles for an intermediate-level hike to the top of Mt. Hollywood, followed by an optional late lunch at a local restaurant. The hike will go from near the Greek Theater to Griffith Observatory and from there up to the top of Mt. Hollywood; Emmy Goldknopf and Sue Schohan will be leading. Along the way (weather permitting) we will enjoy great views of the LA Basin; if it is clear you can see the ocean from the top.

The hike will be moderately paced and is 5 miles R/T with approximately 1000 ft of elevation gain/loss. The hike is on well-maintained trails and fire roads with a few short steep stretches and is suitable for fit beginners. If people want to do only part of the hike, they could turn back at the Observatory. There are bathrooms near the parking lot where where we are meeting and also at the Observatory. Rain cancels, but clouds don't.

IMPORTANT: All MOSAIC events require participants to sign a Liability Release Waiver at the event location. If you would like to read the waiver before the event, you can do so at http://www.mosaicla.org/signin.pdf. Please email the event leader if you have any questions about this.

HIKE MEETING PLACE: We will meet in the parking lot on Vermont Ave just north of the Greek Theater. Take Vermont north from the Hollywood/Los Feliz area. About 1 mile north of Los Feliz Blvd you enter Griffith Park and will pass the Greek Theater (which is at 2700 N. Vermont Ave) on the left. Go past the Greek and park in the lot that is just beyond it on the left-hand side.

HIKE START TIME: Meet at the trailhead at 10:00 A.M. (directions below); leave at 10:15 A.M. SHARP!!

HIKE END TIME: 2:00 P.M. (approximately)

BRING: Water (two liters recommended), hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks. We recommend layered clothing in case it is hot on the hike or cool and breezy at the top. Hiking poles might be helpful if you have them.

FOOTWEAR:  Hiking boots/shoes or sneakers with good tread. ABSOLUTELY NO sandals or other open-toe shoes, flip-flops, casual shoes, or high heels.

COST: Hike is free; bring money for optional lunch at local restaurant.
