Hike to Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, Sunday, September 5 Event Description -- Join Mosaic for a 4.75 mile hike in Griffith Park. Although this is not the hike to the famous Hollywood sign, you can still get a great view of the sign as well as fantastic vistas of the LA basin and ocean. Hike will be on fire roads, dirt trails and some pavement. With an 800 ft elevation gain, this trip is rated as moderate but appropriate for fit beginners. At the top, we'll stop for a short break. Optional dinner stop en route-- on the way back-- at the Griffith Observatory Cafe. Dinner menu on website: http://www.griffithobservatory.org/vcafe.html Hike leader will escort non-diners back to the parking area before rejoining the dinner group. Possible visit to Observatory after dinner. While we anticipate primarily singles and solo Mosaic'ers for this event, couples are also welcome.
You should be in moderate to good hiking shape; fit beginners are welcome.
IMPORTANT: All MOSAIC events require participants to sign a Liability Release Waiver at the event location. If you would like to read the waiver before the event, you can do so at www.mosaicla.org/signin.pdf. Please email the event leader if you have any questions about this.
HIKE MEETING PLACE: In front of the Greek Theater, at the benches. 2700 North Vermont Avenue
HIKE START TIME: Meet at the trail head at 4:30 P.M. (directions below); leave at 4:45 P.M. SHARP!!
HIKE END TIME: 7:30 P.M.
BRING: water (two liters recommended), hat, sunscreen, a snack to share, a jacket, sweater or windbreaker, as it may get cool, and/or windy, and your friends.
FOOTWEAR: Hiking boots or trail running shoes recommended, ABSOLUTELY NO sandals or other open-toe shoes, flip flops, casual shoes or high heels.
COST: Free. Bring $$ if you will be joining us for dinner at the Griffith Observatory Cafe.
PETS: Pets are not permitted on this hike

West LA Carpool We will carpool from Trader Joe's - 10850 National Boulevard (at Westwood). There is plenty of parking on the side streets - do not park in the Trader Joe's lot. Meet in the upper Trader Joe's lot at 3:30 P.M. and leave at 3:45 P.M. SHARP. PLEASE NOTE: Be prepared to form your own carpools if there are no Mosaic representatives.
Valley Carpool We will meet in Sherman Oaks, 15410 Ventura Blvd, at the Union 76 Gas Station across from Marriot Courtyard Hotel (on Ventura Blvd. just west of the 405 Fwy.). Meet at 3:30 P.M. and leave at 3:45 P.M. SHARP. PLEASE NOTE: Be prepared to form your own carpools if there are no Mosaic representatives.
Long Beach/West Orange County Carpool We will carpool from BEHIND CVS Pharmacy (formerly SavOn Drugs) - 12490 Seal Beach Blvd Seal Beach, CA 90740-2711 (at Saint Cloud). There is plenty of parking BETWEEN the CVS Pharmacy and the Ralph's. There is a Starbuck's and various other restaurants and stores such as ZPizza, Togo's, Islands, Target, etc. in the same parking lot. Meet in the parking lot behind the CVS Pharmacy at 3:00 P.M. and leave at 3:15 P.M. SHARP. PLEASE NOTE: Be prepared to form your own carpools if there are no Mosaic representatives. |
