Moderate moonlight hike in the mountains
Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Event Description -- Come join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater Los Angeles for a moderate moonlight hike in the Santa Monica Mountains on Wednesday, April 13.  Steve Berson and David Schwartz will be leading a loop hike in Mandeville Canyon up to an old Nike base with an observation tower (as well as water and restrooms).  The moon will be about 75% full and will be high in the sky for our hike - it should be nice.

The hike is about 5 miles with about 800 feet of gain.  Meet at the trailhead at 7:00pm - we leave at 7:15pm sharp.  Wear comfortable hiking shoes, and bring one liter of water, a flashlight (for emergencies only), a sweater or jacket, and - IMPORTANT - a snack to share at the top.

DIRECTIONS TO TRAIL HEAD:

From Los Angeles, take I-405 North to Sunset Blvd.  Go west on Sunset about 2 miles to Mandeville Canyon Road (stop light across from a school).  Turn right on Mandeville and go about 5 miles to Garden Land Road (just past Hollyhock on the right).  If you miss Garden Land and hit the end of Mandeville, you have gone about half a mile too far.  Park near the intersection of Garden Land and Mandeville.  We will meet at this intersection at 7:00pm.

From San Fernando Valley, take I-405 South to Sunset Blvd and follow the directions above.

We should be back at the trailhead before 10:30pm.

Rain cancels, but clouds don't.

IMPORTANT: All MOSAIC events require participants to sign a Liability Release Waiver at the event location. If you would like to read the waiver before the event, you can do so at www.mosaicla.org/signin.pdf.
