V. 1.12 of Morse Expert is now available to the members of this group. This version has several new features requested by the users.

Quite a few users wanted to remove the ad banner. This option is now available in the premium version.

Another feature in the premium version is the ability to change the font size and colors of the decoded text.

A new Pause button is available in both basic and premium versions.

A small number of users have experienced the app crashes on their devices. This version includes extra code to eliminate such crashes.

I do not have experience with the app purchase API at Google Play. As I understand, my app is currently in the test mode, which means that the users who purchase the premium version are not actually charged. If my assumption is correct, you should see something like this on the purchase page:

At this time I do not know if such purchases persist after the test version is promoted to the public release, or if they are reset.

Hi Stuart,

For the members of this group the beta is installed automatically, just like the regular updates of all apps, but this may take some time. To get the beta manually, open Google Play Store on your smartphone, find Morse Expert using the search function, and click on Update. The version you need is 1.12.

Please note that when you are upgrading to the premium version, if the payment method is not listed as "Test Card", the payment may be real.

Hi Alex,
How is the beta version enabled to members of this group? Is it based on the email address? I have a different email id that I use on the phone. Is that the reason I don't see the update in playstore?

Thanks,
Bejoy

The beta is available on the mobile devices where the user is logged in using the gmail address subscribed to this group.

Ok, thanks. I have now joined the group with the email id that I use on the phone.

I had that issue at first...I signed up using a ham email address, then realized I had no way to get it on the phone or tablet, so I signed up with that gmail address. Now I am subscribed with 2 email addresses, and I get duplicates messages from the forum. Perhaps I can delete one. But still I don't see how to upgrade. I originally signed up to test it with the ham address. Then I subscribed with the gmail address. So not sure what my subscription is...

OK...just logged in...says I am a beta tester...Play has 1.09 as the latest...and the premium version is available...I thought I already signed up for that, but I guess not...there is no Update button.

Do we have to do this /from the phone/, unlike other apps, or should I be able to upgrade if I am logged into the desktop?

I am new to this, and I do not have all answers yet. It looks like while the app is in the beta stage, the upgrade is available only on the devices logged in with a gmail address subscribed to this group. Once the app is publicly released, its upgrade options will be the same as in other Android apps.

"Logged in" may be a key. I am used to the idea that any Play apps I have installed will update when I connect to wi-fi. But betas may be different. Later, I will test this by "logging in" on a phone that is on w-fi, and see what I get.

Ok, here is what I had to do:

Joined this group with the email id registered on my android phone.
Once the group membership is propagated to the playstore, I got a "Join the Beta" option in playstore for the app. Clicked "Join"
After about an hour, i got the "Update" option.

PS. Something I learnt today, Android apps while publishing have the option to specify a google-group (one or more) to allow beta testing. So all the members in that group are eligible for a beta version in their play store account for that app. It takes a while to propagate the setting to the playstore and to the phone accounts.

I deleted my ham email. When I checked my phone, the new version was there with ads. I upgraded to Premium. It says that I am a beta tester but I paid $5. It's worth it to me, and no more hassles w Gplay.
