Hi all -- I spoke with a good friend last night who has been involved with the Sussex County Coop for many years. She offered some guidance about getting a coop started. I'd love to share the information and continue our conversation.

Anyone interested can come to my house--54 Budd Street--at 3pm on Sunday (right after we hit up the farmer's market ;-) ). Please respond here or send me a text message (201-401-1132) if you plan to come, and feel free to bring other interested parties. For full disclosure, we have no AC but we have a nice backyard to use as a pow wow spot.

Also, the survey has plateaued at 20 responses...anyone else you can forward it to?

THANKS

I'm almost positive I can be there, Rebecca, and since I missed the first meeting and have been too swamped to respond to all the good stuff that's been floating around, I'm eager to show up as a live presence for once.

Great Hope! A big BTW -- kids are totally welcome. Naomi will love the company.

My little man may be neck-deep in chlorine howling with his wolf pack of 6 year-old boys at Burnham Pool, but that's good to know, thanks!

Hi Team -- I hope you can make it tomorrow. If you can't and you've explored or discovered any information that will be helpful to our cause, please email it out to the group so we can discuss it in your absence.

THANKS

Hi All,

I don't think I'm going to be able to make it today, so I wanted to send along a little bit about the Foodshed Alliance Virtual Farmer's Market, or buying club, although I know Hope and Meghan are well-versed in it.

Basically the Foodshed Alliance (a nonprofit based in Blairstown) coordinates with farmers (primarily Sussex county) to determine what they have for sale for the week.  On Tuesday, this is posted online in a Virtual Buying Club (they just upgraded to a new site powered by Farmingo:  http://www.farmigo.com/).  This entry/coordination is done by Foodshed staff.  You have until Friday to decide what you'd like (login and place your order).  Then on Tuesday, it is delivered to a house in Morristown - a volunteer who I believe gets a discount on their purchases - where everyone goes to pick it up between 3-7 pm.  You also write a check at that time (since you couldn't previously pay online.... I don't know yet if that has changed with the new site).  During the summer, they do this every week.  In the winter months, it is every other week.  They sell meats, produce, prepared goods, baked goods, etc.  I really enjoy it, although it is fairly pricey and does still require planning ahead.  Let me know if you have any more questions.

Also, I was supposed to write a letter to Grassroots to ask them to come to Morristown, but since I haven't been there ever, I've been waiting until I got the chance to go.  This might not happen for a while since summer is crazy, so if someone else, who has been there and thoroughly enjoys it, would like to take the lead on that, please do.  I'm happy to try to get it online somehow so we can have people virtually sign it?

Thanks!
Abby

I would love to write that letter to Grassroots. Throw me to thoughts on what points should be touched on.

Thanks Christian. At today's meeting, Paul Miller felt that this was not necessary since Grassroots is already interested and will come as long as the lease works out. If you'd like to investigate a space for a winter market it would be helpful. Or if you want to write specifically, maybe a letter to the partnership about a full year market?
