Hi All,
I don't think I'm going to be able to make it today, so I wanted to send along a little bit about the Foodshed Alliance Virtual Farmer's Market, or buying club, although I know Hope and Meghan are well-versed in it.
Basically the
Foodshed Alliance (a nonprofit based in Blairstown) coordinates with farmers (primarily Sussex county) to determine what they have for sale for the week. On Tuesday, this is posted online in a Virtual Buying Club (they just upgraded to a new site powered by Farmingo:
http://www.farmigo.com/). This entry/coordination is done by Foodshed staff. You have until Friday to decide what you'd like (login and place your order). Then on Tuesday, it is delivered to a house in Morristown - a volunteer who I believe gets a discount on their purchases - where everyone goes to pick it up between 3-7 pm. You also write a check at that time (since you couldn't previously pay online.... I don't know yet if that has changed with the new site). During the summer, they do this every week. In the winter months, it is every other week. They sell meats, produce, prepared goods, baked goods, etc. I really enjoy it, although it is fairly pricey and does still require planning ahead. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Also, I was supposed to write a letter to Grassroots to ask them to come to Morristown, but since I haven't been there ever, I've been waiting until I got the chance to go. This might not happen for a while since summer is crazy, so if someone else, who has been there and thoroughly enjoys it, would like to take the lead on that, please do. I'm happy to try to get it online somehow so we can have people virtually sign it?
Thanks!
Abby
