I just updated to the new version of morpheous on my windows machine but I cannot run any of the example simulations due to the following error.

'C:/Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

Is there a quick work around? Have others experienced this problem?

Thank you for your help,

Katherine

Hi Katherine,

I just updated to the new version of morpheous on my windows machine but I cannot run any of the example simulations due to the following error.

'C:/Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

This is probably caused by the space in "Program Files" that is used in Windows.

I assume that because of this, Morpheus cannot find Gnuplot because of its path that looks something like "C:/Program Files/Gnuplot.exe".

You can try 2 things:
1. Specify the Gnuplot executable: In Morpheus go to Settings -> Local -> Gnuplot executable and select the gnuplot executable.

2. If that does not help, you can move or copy Gnuplot to a different folder without a space in the path, e.g. "C:/Gnuplot" and repeat step 1 again, now selecting the new path.

Let us know whether this solved it.

Best,
Walter

Thank you Walter,

However I tried both option 1 and 2 and neither fixed the problem.

Do I need to install a different version of gnuplot that I had working from Morpheus 1.2?

Any other ideas?

Thank you for your help,

Katherine

Sorry to hear that.

The problem might also be caused by the fact that the graphical user interface (morpheus-gui.exe) cannot find the simulator (morpheus.exe), due to the same issue (i.e. the space in "C:/Program Files/Morpheus/morpheus.exe").

In this case, you may solve the issue using the same trick:
1. Specify the simulator executable: In Morpheus go to Settings -> Local -> Simulator executable and select the morpheus.exe executable.
2. If that does not help, you can move or copy Morpheus to a different folder without a space in the path, e.g. "C:/Morpheus" and repeat step 1 again, now selecting the new path.

Unfortunately, I do not have a computer with Windows to reproduce the problem and offer better assistance, at the moment.

Do I need to install a different version of gnuplot that I had working from Morpheus 1.2?

No, that is unlikely to be the cause of the issue.

Cheers,
Walter

Hi again,

I now tested Morpheus 1.9.2. under Windows (thanks Alex) and also got the same error message "'C:/Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command".

However, I noticed that this error message comes up AFTER the simulation has finished. The simulations themselves execute without problems (including gnuplot visualization). So the error messages are annoying but harmless.

Another thing I noticed is that the performance of Morpheus under Windows is much lower than under Mac or Linux. So, if you can, try to install it on a computer with a different operating system.

Nevertheless, we want to provide support for Windows and therefore will look into these issues (annoying error messages and performance).

Best,
Walter

We have identified the source of the problem with the error messages (it's an issue with Posix pipes that are used to stream data from Morpheus to Gnuplot) and are working on a solution. You can track the issue here: https://gitlab.com/morpheus.lab/morpheus/issues/35.

Walter

Jörn has implemented a fix for this issue (see https://gitlab.com/morpheus.lab/morpheus/issues/35) and updated the windows package.

You find the updated package here:
   https://imc.zih.tu-dresden.de/morpheus/packages/windows/public/morpheus-1.9.2.Windows.b161102.exe

Let us know if you experience problems with this package.

Best,
Walter
