NEW YORK, (TheStreet) -- Google's (GOOG) social networking site, Google+ is possibly the best office-time distraction since, well, Facebook.
Ripples of invites launched during the Google+ field trials have built rapidly-expanding waves of signups across the broader online population. In other words, everybody's doing it -- or will be, soon.

Blogger Paul Allen estimates Google+ users, as of Sunday, have nearly tripled to 4.7 million from 1.7 at the beginning of last week. Allen expects to update his estimate later today.
But so what? Google's got a product that could be as big as Gmail. Does that mean success on any level other than popularity in the blogosphere?
