Headsail sizes,

re Santana

 

Santana is back in the water after her winter refit and is in the Hamble.

I am trying to source a 2nd hand Roller reefed Genoa.

Does anyone know the relevant sizes for a Morgan Giles 30, so that I can search the sail lofts.

Hello Ty,

 

I sail up on the Solway and keep 'Tsayot' in Maryport.

 

I have a copy of the original sale brochure and I sent a copy to Santana's previous owner Tony who put a copy on the Morgan

Giles 30 site. It doesn't give sail sizes though. However I also have a copy of the sail plan with sail sizes on.

 

The measurements of the Genoa, the biggest sail, are :-

Luff 31' 6"

Leech 31' 3"

Foot 16' 10" 

Area 255.12 sq ft.

 

This is the size of my Genoa which I use on a Plastimo 810S furler. It overlaps the shrouds quite a bit and is actually lower than most furling foresails but it seems to work okay.

 

I have the sizes of the other sails, i.e., No1, No2 & storm jib and the mainsail if you need them.

 

I also have the sizes for the spinnaker which are :-

Leeches 33' 0"

Foot 20' 0"

Actually says 10' 00" for the foot on plan but I think this is the half measurement. From memory the foot measurement on my kite must be around 20' 0" certainly nowhere near 10'. Don't have the area though.

The storm jib sizes on the plan are :-

Luff 15' 0"

Leech 10'6"

Foot 7' 0"

 

I don't have one but It seems very small! But big enough in a force 8!
