Mays are truly always gone from Morehouse!  Let's be real guys John Wilson and his money connection was at all white MIT, Morehouse College is an HBCU.  Wilson is no Lomax, we need a guy from fund-raising like Lomax(UNCF)!  A guy from the HBCU circuit with an everyman approach!   Lomax did great things for Dillard University, Kimbrough is not a good president for Dillard!  We need a President at Morehouse, who is established on the HBCU circuit and can raise lots of money!

Brothers:

I echo Leonard's sentiment and would suggest a different vantage point then Gregory's.  We are at a critical juncture for our alma mater: 3 searches in far less than a decade does not suggest stability in leadership and WILL impact our bond rating and giving in general.  So here comes the blasphemy.  Future searches would serve us best by diversifying the candidate pool to include non-Morehouse College graduates.  If we continue to limit our presidents to only Morehouse men, we will miss out on a particularly talented and visionary leader.  A hard pill to swallow, maybe: but the last time I checked, the Harvards and the Princetons and the Stanfords of the world have been led by non-graduates with great success.  While we can be disappointed, we cannot afford to be disaffected.

I think you may be that visionary...smile.  Do not think we would be comfortable with that degree of sweeping change.  That being said, there are white students and recent graduates who are as steeped in the ideals of the Morehouse man as any student of color.  And that's a good thing.  

Expansion? I would just be happy with regaining our standing of academic excellence end restoring financial stability.

Gents, my other alma mater, the University of Florida, has cast a wide net for its top leadership by selecting non-Gators, politicians, doctors, lawyers, academics, et. al over the last 35 years since I left there. I  suggest the same, and that Morehouse particularly focus on somebody with a successful biz background (either entrepreneurial or corporate with budget responsibility), who’s financially comfortable (therefore no motive to steal), can raise $, operate the school (it’s a actually a small non-profit organization) efficiently & effectively, and personally inspire all stakeholders, not just students. 

I encouraged our classmate & current Morehouse trustee C.D. Moody, Jr. to put his hat in the ring & stay for 5 years, but he says God has other things for him to do, i.e., focus on fighting childhood sexual abuse. I understand his mission and accept his decision.

BTW, Dr. Mays wasn’t a Morehouse grad. Enough said...

Men,

I really hate to hear what's going on at Morehouse.  My son is a freshman there and I am extremely concerned! I influenced him to consider Morehouse even though it was not on his top five list. Nonetheless, prayer and action from us are in order for Dear Ole Morehouse. 

Here's an interesting twist to consider for our president.  A woman!  How about Oprah?  That would help address our financial issues and she could call on some of the best and brightest minds to help. Additionally, her leadership skills has helped make her one of the most successful individuals worldwide.  Think of what she could do for the House.  Besides, she already funded  more than 100 +  Morehouse scholarships.

It is extremely disappointing to see what is happening at our college, especially considering that this is a milestone year in her history. It is also disappointing, but it  may be a harsh reality,  that the search for our new President  may have to extend outside the Morehouse Community. (As you probably know Dr. Harvey faced similar challenges when he took the helm at Hampton 39 years ago and his Presidency is viewed as a major success story. He is not a Hampton Grad. Ruth Simmons, a Dillard Grad, did a phenomenal job at Brown.)

Sweeping Change? Maybe,  but I am not sure it is necessary for Morehouse to look outside of our race for any more than some guidance and financial assistance. Morehouse is "ours" and I would like it to remain ours. 

As we begin this new year brothers,  Morehouse's challenges appear to mirror our country's challenges.; with like efforts needed to overcome them. Change is a comin'.

Finally, some of you may know John better than I do... I got to know him a little since I did not finish Morehouse until 79'. (Never professed to be one of the brightest Morehouse Brothers lol). I thought he was the right choice to lead Morehouse. The one thing I do know about him is his love for Morehouse and his heart being in the right place. I wish him well.

I do believe that money and a true visionary will resolve the majority of her challenges. 

Let me first say, I am NOT a money man....I would think that we must have plenty of them in our Morehouse Community. But my guess would be:

Increasing the endowment would be of paramount importance. Having enough capital so that hedge fund managers could make investments that would aid in our endowment growth. Again, I don't have a thorough understanding of this but I do know some larger institutions (or should I say with more resources) pay more money to their hedge fund managers then they give out collectively in financial aid to their students. Those investments are a major source of their endowment growth.....the old adage you need money to make money I guess (and that may be extent of my knowledge lol).

(Maybe if all of these great athletes would start going  to HBCUs and Morehouse in particular instead of going to predominant schooIs. My version of "I Have A Dream".  The next Lebron James in the Maroon and White!) lol

I have been working at HBCU's since 1995 and trust me I have the correct vantage point!  Private HBCU's need a type of superman to do well, Sam French at Miles College, Logan Hampton at Lane College, Sam Cooke at Dillard,  and the like!  Morehouse should start at The American Association of Blacks in Higher Education meeting in Raleigh, NC. March 23-25!( I am going)  We need a Boy Wonder from the AABHE circle!  This superman/boy wonder can or cannot be a Morehouse Grad!  The key is his fund-raising prowess!

Brothers:

I echo Leonard's sentiment and would suggest a different vantage point then Gregory's.  We are at a critical juncture for our alma mater: 3 searches in far less than a decade does not suggest stability in leadership and WILL impact our bond rating and giving in general.  So here comes the blasphemy.  Future searches would serve us best by diversifying the candidate pool to include non-Morehouse College graduates.  If we continue to limit our presidents to only Morehouse men, we will miss out on a particularly talented and visionary leader.  A hard pill to swallow, maybe: but the last time I checked, the Harvards and the Princetons and the Stanfords of the world have been led by non-graduates with great success.  While we can be disappointed, we cannot afford to be disaffected.

Mays are truly always gone from Morehouse!  Let's be real guys John Wilson and his money connection was at all white MIT, Morehouse College is an HBCU.  Wilson is no Lomax, we need a guy from fund-raising like Lomax(UNCF)!  A guy from the HBCU circuit with an everyman approach!   Lomax did great things for Dillard University, Kimbrough is not a good president for Dillard!  We need a President at Morehouse, who is established on the HBCU circuit and can raise lots of money!
