STOP GOVERNMENT ATTACKS

  ON REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS

    The Trump Administration is viciously increasing attacks on immigrants and refugees—taking away their human rights, putting them into prison-like conditions, and terrorizing them—whether they are forced to wait in Mexico or are inside the U.S.  Trump says this will stop immigrants from coming. 

    Thousands of immigrant children have been sent across the country to be held indefinitely. Did you know that here in Chicago children from infants to 18 are being held in 5 Heartland Alliance detention centers? Children have reported sexual and other abuses that are being investigated. 

 

     ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and other government agencies are paying Heartland Alliance, a non-profit, to do their dirty work—holding children against the wishes of their parents. 

 

    We demand that Heartland close all centers, cancel its contracts with ICE, and immediately arrange to have these children returned safely and humanely to their parents or sponsors chosen by the parents.

   

    Despite such abuses, people leave beloved homelands and risk everything, looking for safety and new lives. Why?  

 

   U.S. banks and corporations and the government give themselves the “right” to cross borders around the world, destroying other people’s lives. They make super-profits—ruining economies, impoverishing families, and creating chaos and real violence.  Banks profit from predatory loans and force countries to cut social services.  Companies like Monsanto and Cargill manipulate agriculture—making it impossible for many farmers to make a living.  U.S. investors in the drug trade don’t worry about the chaos and violence this causes in Latin America and inside the U.S., where drugs are especially channeled into Black and Latino communities.

     So, desperate people come.  Instead of finding safety and opportunity, most immigrants face racism, and work in the lowest paid jobs with poor conditions. They live with the constant threat of deportation while they’re called criminals.

 

     Why? Trump demonizes immigrants-- to divert attention from problems in the U.S. and avoid being held accountable. The government faces angry working people here demanding healthcare and decent education and organizing for $15 an hour.  The government spends 62% of our federal taxes in the discretionary budget for war, leaving only 38% for everything else. Instead of solving problems, the government blames immigrants.

 

     Immigrants and refugees are not alone—more and more, working people oppose lies and government attempts to pit us against each other.  We know from experience that an injury to one group of workers hurts all workers. Let’s join in with groups and individuals who are working to ensure that Chicago becomes a true sanctuary city with no detention centers and no participation in ICE raids and deportation actions.

El Gobierno Debe Parar los Ataques a Refugiados e Inmigrantes

La administración Trump continua incrementando los ataques a inmigrantes y refugiados con acciones como: quitándoles sus básicos derechos humanos, sembrando miedo y manteniéndoles en lugares que son cárceles. Esto lo hace, forzándolos a esperar en México o con deportaciones dentro del país.

Miles de infantes han sido forzados a estar en centros de detención por todo el país indefinidamente.  ¿Sabías que aquí en Chicago bebes a adolescentes hasta de 18 años son detenidos por la organización Heartland Alliance?  Los menores han reportado abusos sexuales, los cuales están investigados.

 ICE y otras agencias de gobierno están pagando a la organización Heartland Alliance para hacer el trabajo sucio que es detener a los menores en contra de sus deseos y los de sus familias.  

Nosotros demandamos que Heartland Alliance cierre todos sus centros de detención y cancele los contratos que tiene con ICE y devuela a los menores con sus familiares.

Muy a pesar que estas personas dejaron sus países de origen, arriesgan todo para buscar seguridad  y nueva vida.  ¿Por qué tratarlos así?

Los bancos, corporaciones y el mismo gobierno se dieron el “derecho” de cruzar las fronteras de otros países y destruir las vidas de la gente donde se establecen.  Ellos hacen mucho dinero, empobreciendo familias y creando caos y violencia.  Los bancos hacen préstamos con un gran interés y obligan a los países a cortar servicios sociales. Las compañías como Monsanto y Carill manipulan la agricultura, haciendo incosteable trabajar en el campo. Gente de los Estados Unidos invierte en el tráfico de la droga sin preocuparse del caos y violencia que esto crea en América Latina.  Y por desgracia, mucha de esta droga se lleva a las comunidades Latinas y Afroamericanas. 

La gente desesperada viene a Los Estados Unidos a buscar paz. Pero en lugar de paz y oportunidad para mejorar, se enfrentan al racismo, trabajos mal pagados y viven en riesgo constante  de ser deportados, llamándoles criminales.

¿Por qué esto?  El Presidente responsabiliza a los inmigrantes de los problemas para distrae la atención de los graves problemas nacionales.  Entre ellos la demanda de trabajo para que el gobierno apruebe el salario mínimo de 15 dólares por hora, cobertura de salud y mejor educación.  Pero en lugar de eso, el gobierno gasta 62% de nuestros impuestos federales en gastos de guerra, dejando solo el 38% para lo demás.  En lugar de buscar soluciones, el gobierno culpa a los inmigrantes.

Inmigrantes y refugiados no están solos. Mucha gente trabajadora se opone a las mentiras y deseos de poner a pelear grupos contra grupos.  Sabemos por experiencia que el ataque contra un grupo es ataque contra todos los trabajadores.  Unámonos todos a individuos y organizaciones para asegurar que Chicago sea una verdadera ciudad de santuario, sin centros de detención para menores o que la que la ciudad colabora con ICE.
