Chicago Answers the Call to Escalade Protests Following the Disappearance of 43 Normalistas in Guerrero

They want us to believe that organized crime and “corrupt public officials” are responsible for the disappearance of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa. 22 local police were arrested, cartel members were captured and now the only missing link is the political figures who are on the run. The message is this: the state is solving the crisis. Each new phase is supposed to reassure us that the government’s investigation is progressing, those guilty will be found and punished with the full force of the law. In the name of this justice, the local population is terrorized: massive militarization, home invasions, arbitrary detentions. Iguala is under siege.

We know much of the evidence used to arrest the cops is fake. We know that some heads will roll to pacify us and return to “normal”. Behind the scenes, the Narcostate is experimenting: the game of power stays the same, while some of the players are changing. And the spectacle of producing the guilty is designed to hide the fact that the state itself has orchestrated the crisis. The investigation is a smokescreen.

It is the state that disappears in a war against indigenous peoples and campesin@s, against all those who rebel and all who are made disposable by the logic of profit. It is the state that governs through disappearance, terror and death. 
In this war the rural school model keeps alive a form of existence and autonomy that is a form of rebellion. In this war the state wants to disappear not just the students, but the consciousness they represent. But this is not new, and it is not only 43 normalistas, more than 24,000 people have been disappeared since 2005.  The state disappears Nestora Salgado and José Manuel Mireles, those who arm themselves in self-defense against the narcos and government occupation.  The state disappears Yaqui tribe spokespersons Mario Luna and Fernando Jimenéz for fighting in defense of ancestral waters and the right to exist. The state disappears those defending the lands from resource extraction, those who refuse to acquiesce to their own destruction. The state disappears all who stand in the way of the neoliberal restructuring of life, those who create autonomy and threaten the interests of multinational corporations. The state disappears migrants across journeys of terror, from Central America to the US Borderlands. The state disappears the women it has displaced to the maquilas. The state disappears people into prisons, into borders, into graveyards, into warehouses, into the living death of servitude and assimilation.

In the massacres and disappearances, the state is the author and executor at the service of capital. The US is the patron of this war, and the Mexican state is its accomplice.

Join us on Monday October 27 at the Mexican Consulate in Chicago. We do not come here to deliver a letter or to dialogue with the representatives of power. We don’t come asking for your justice or for your compassion. We come to put you on trial.

Nos quieren hacer creer que el crimen organizado y unos cuantos “funcionarios públicos corruptos” son los responsables de la desaparición de los 43 estudiantes de Ayotzinapa. Ya arrestaron a 22 policías locales y algunos miembros de los carteles de la droga fueron capturados y ahora el único eslabón que falta, son las figuras políticas que se dieron a la fuga. El mensaje es este: el Estado está resolviendo la crisis. Cada nueva fase está diseñada para asegurarnos que la investigación del gobierno esta progresando, todos aquellos culpables serán encontrados y castigados con todo el rigor de la ley. En nombre de esta justicia, la población local es aterrorizada: con una militarización masiva, allanamientos de hogares y detenciones arbitrarias. Iguala esta bajo sitio.

Sabemos que mucha de la evidencia usada para arrestar a los 22 policías es falsa, fue fabricada. Sabemos que rodarán algunas cabezas para pacificarnos y para que todo regrese la “normalidad”. Tras bambalinas, el Narcoestado sigue experimentando: el juego del poder sigue como siempre, aunque algunos de los protagonistas sean remplazados. Y el espectáculo para producir a culpables está diseñado para ocultar el hecho de que el mismo Estado orquestó esta crisis, esta masacre. La investigación sirve como una cortina de humo que usa a los arrestadxs como chivos expiatorios.

Es el Estado el que ordena las desapariciones en una guerra contra los pueblos indígenas y campesinxs, contra todxs aquellxs que se revelan y contra todxs aquellxs que, de acuerdo a la lógica de la ganancia, son desechables. Es el mismo Estado el que gobierna a través de desapariciones, terror y muerte. En esta guerra, el modelo de escuelas rurales mantiene viva una forma de existencia y autonomía la cual es forma de rebelión. En esta guerra el Estado quiere desaparecer no solo a los estudiantes, sino también la concientización que ellos representan. Pero esto no es nada nuevo, y no es solamente son 43 normalistas, en menos de una década más de 24,000 personas han caído victimas de la desaparición-forzada. El Estado desapareció a Nestora Salgado y a Jose Manuel Mireles quienes tomaron armas en defensa contra la ocupación del Narcoestado. El Estado desapareció a Mario Luna y Fernando Jiménez de la Nación Yoeme (Yaqui) por luchar en defensa de sus aguas ancestrales y por el derecho de existir. El Estado desaparece aquellxs que defienden sus tierras de las compañías de extracción, lxs que se niegan a consentir su propia destrucción. El Estado desaparece a todxs aquellxs que se encuentran en el camino de la restructuración de vida neoliberal, aquellxs que crean autonomía y que amenazan los intereses de las corporaciones multinacionales. El Estado desaparece a los migrantes en su transcurso de ruta del mundo sur hacia el norte y a las mujeres que han sido desplazadas rumbo a las maquiladoras. El Estado desaparece a estas personas en cárceles, en bodegas y hieleras, por medio de la existencia de muros y fronteras, en fosas comunes, sumergiéndolos en la muerte en vida de servidumbre y asimilación.

En las masacres y las desapariciones el Estado es el autor intelectual y el verdugo al servicio del gran Capital. Los Estados Unidos es el patrón de esta guerra y el Estado mexicano es su cómplice.

Acompáñanos el lunes 27 de Octubre en el Consulado General Mexicano en Chicago. No iremos para entregarles ninguna carta ni a dialogar con esos representantes del poder. No iremos a rogarles su “justicia” ni su compasión. Iremos a someterlos a un juicio, a responsabilizarlos por ese crimen y a acusarlos ante el pueblo.
