Polly's wallpaper was installed over the last couple days and I'm so excited to share photos today, along with a few other favorites right now! I first fell for this paper just a couple months ago, and I knew it would be so perfect for her space. I shared a sneak peak of the wallpaper in Casual Friday a few weeks ago, but nothing can compare to a whole surround-wallpaper reveal.
Isn't this the wallpaper of every child's dreams? Just mine? Polly's favorite part are the unicorns (shh...they're actually horses, but I think I'm going to paint a gold horn on a few). This paper was installed at a half drop, so that the pattern feels more like a mural around the entire room instead of so repeated. But, every inch of this wallpaper is filled with playful illustrations, that I'll never get tired of looking at, and to me that's what makes it so timeless.
Almost everything else in her room came with us from our last home, with the exception of the lumbar pillow and new light fixture! I knew this crown light fixture would be perfect for her room the second I saw it online and now that it's up it's giving me major Where The Wild Things Are storybook vibes.
There's still more we want to do in this room, but the wonderful thing about a wallpaper with a lot of interest is it pulls double duty as art. I decided to keep all the trim, doors, and windows white, and eventually get some really beautiful custom roman shades in maybe a light blue with trim. We'd also love to add a dresser, little chair (I think we're finally ready to retire the rocker) and a rug...VERY VERY SOOOOON ;). I have a feeling that Polly's going to be falling asleep while watching these storybook characters come alive and that just warms my heart.
Since I've got wallpaper on the mind and I'm looking for every excuse to use it in this house, I rounded up a bunch of wallpapers I'm loving right now. Bonus points if you can list out all the wallpapers you've seen us use before!
This room is what dreams are made of! I'm so glad your little girl loves it. And I learned something new: the half-drop technique. Although I don't quite understand how you know you want to do it. I'm going to check it out on YouTube.
It's the wallpaper of MY dreams for sure (green, organic/trees, ties to my deep love of English literatures and children's lit) and I don't even DO wallpaper!! Seriously though. I had that William Morris green floral featured in my number one pinned inspo for my girls' shared room but our home has a modern California vibe that completely is at odds with cottagey things, plus I had no budget anyway, so regular old deep green paint on the bunk wall it was! In the right house, someday I will do a tree mural accent wall type paper for sure.
Wallpapers are designed to hang on a half drop or not. I don't think you can choose (but I could be wrong!). It's a more complicated design on the designer's part and it makes it look so much more special
Oh Katie, I love this idea! And maybe don't tell Polly where you're putting them... it'll be a magical 'Where is Waldo' for her, and then such a special personal touch she can share with her friends someday when they come over to play!
It's the best wallpaper ever and I have a suggestion to add to the unicorn horns idea. It would be lovely to hire an artist to add some other tiny things. She/he could paint a few of Polly's favorite books with the rabbits reading, a favorite doll in a bed like hers, a pet if you have one, the rocking chair, favorite fruit......anything that would make her smile. There could also be a wrapped gift hidden in a tree and you could have an identical wrapped gift under the tree at Christmas. The possibilities for joy are endless! If I lived there I'd come and do it for you!!
