trouble with paraview

Hi,all:
When I use paraview to open a output file with extension '.e', I just get a square or points with nothing(so different from the picture at moose wiki), could any one tell me why?

Xialidong,

you need to consult a Paraview tutorial (Google it). Your screenshot shows that you are not plotting any data (you are plotting the block assignment for each element, and tehre is only one block).

In the bottom left you need to enable the actual data and then select it in the dropdown that currently says "vtkBlockColors" in the toolbar.

Do you see the list of variables on the left-hand side?  You have to check those boxes and hit Apply before Paraview will load any of their values.

Thanks a lot, here is another question, the output at step2 and step 64 in peacock is as followings, we can see the evolution of the grains.But when I use paraview to open the output at step2 and step 64, there is no difference. variable is bnds.where am I wrong?

Paraview automatically loads all the output files from the same run. That's the extra "-s<nnn>" suffix you see on these files. When you ask it to load e-s002, you are getting the whole set behind the scenes. When you ask it to load e-064, you are getting the whole set behind the scenes.

Just load the whole solution set and use the "iPod" controls to move to the desired step.

To prove this point, you can move those individual steps to a different folder and load them by themselves.
