Anyone using Wyze cameras with moonfire-nvr?  I'm not finding any meaningful results using Google and combining the search terms: "moonfire-nvr" with "wyze".

I have a friend who has Wyze cameras and it is uncertain if Wyze's stream can be accessed without installing a server or doing some sort of modification.  This link suggests Wyze's stream is not accessible... but then, that's what Wireshark is for, right <grin>?

From this page, it looks like Wyze's release firmware doesn't have RTSP support but their latest betas do. I would expect those to work (or for any compatibility problems to be fixable).

Thank you, Scott.  I saw something about having to install firmware, and something caught my eye about it being a no-return choice, but that didn't make sense to me as you should be able to install an older/previous firmware.  However, I'm learning in my reading of electronics that there are some memories that are write-once only, so it is technically possible that could be in play.   These statements by Wyze:

  • Using the RTSP firmware will prevent the camera from supporting any future functions or features in the Wyze app.
  • At this time, we are not committing to ongoing maintenance for RTSP firmware. We will deliver security updates as needed.
are also disconcerting.   (I'd suggest buying Reolink, but 2 cameras I bought last July have both failed and warranty requires you send the failed unit plus "everything" back before they'll send you a new one.  Shipping would cost at least $9, so 4 months of "working" for a $40 product with a $9 replacement cost, not to mention the downtime while the camera is out of service, makes such a suggestion less than enthusiastic.)

That's too bad. I doubt it's physically write-once, but if they make it painful and unsupported, it might as well be for most users.
