I'm currently working to integrate the DigitalPersona U.are.U 4500 Fingerprint Reader with our FileMaker application. I installed the DigitalPersona SDK 1.6.1 on my system (Windows 10 Pro x64, 1904 Build 18362). However, the SDK samples do not seem to work while launching the scanner window. It gives the error: "ERROR: The RPC Server is not listening (0x800706B3)". I checked the 'Remote Procedure Call' and 'DCOM Server Process Launcher' but they're already running.

I then installed the SDK on an older Windows 10 installation (64 bit, 1709 Build 16299). The sample applications ran, but when the scanner window launches, it does not detect the connected fingerprint reader. I tried switching the device driver from "U.are.U 4500 Fingerprint Reader (WBF)" to the normal "U.are.U 4500 Fingerprint Reader" but it didn't help.

I tried the Biometric Fingerprint Plugin (by Productive Computing) for FileMaker and installed version 2.0.1.2. It comes with a sample FileMaker application for enrolling fingerprints and searching them. The plugin installed correctly, however, it also gives me the same issue upon scanner Window launch. The error message says "The fingerprint reader is not connected. Connect the reader." A screenshot is shown below.

As a result, I am neither able to use the code samples given with the SDK, nor able to use the demo file provided by the plugin, because the plugin isn't getting detected. I thought maybe the device was faulty, but it is working fine with Windows Hello fingerprint sign-in (using the WBF driver), as well as with the TimeDrop software (using the simple, non-WBF driver). The SDK is working with neither of these drivers.

Go to the Device Manager and locate the fingerprint device. Then Right Click >> Update Driver >> Browse my computer for drivers >> Let me pick from a list of available drivers.

I'm trying to install the DigitalPersona fingerprint driver using Driver Wizard, the problem is, the fingerprint reader works fine before installing with Driver Wizard(means you can still tab your finger on the reader and it responds well)

But after Driver Wizard completed the installation, the fingerprint reader is not functioned anymore(you tab finger on it, and no response).

what do you mean "low level commands from the vendor" ? Isn't it enough to make it work by following up all the steps in Driver Wizard ?
Are you talking about the vendor number and product number ?
When i install the original driver, in Device Panel it shows:

Of course it is not enough to just follow the steps in the wizard. That would just be the very first and easiest part. You don't seem to understand that you would then need to read and write to the device in order to make it function. By using the wizard, you removed the original windows driver that made it work. The low level commands from the vendor tell you how and what to read/write. If you don't have that information, you are wasting your time. I asked you why you used the wizard in the first place.

I asked how it originally appeared in windows. If you can restore things to how they were before you started messing around with VISA, look in windows device manager and see what driver it is using a what USB class. HID (Human Interface Class) is what mic, keyboards, etc. use and it is possible that your's used the same interface. You would then use the Call Library Function Node to interface to HID.dll. This interface is described by Microsoft though you would still need help from the vendor.

I found out the usb info on the device management, it's a composite device, and i have the API of the fingerprint reader, what i wonder is, i can detact the device in VISA interactive Control, but just didn't show the "blue light" as the original installation.

sry I thought it should work only by following the driver installation from Driver Wizard(that's why i didn't answer your question, again, i'm new to all these drivers, labview, commend set things etc...), but since you mentioned about it also work with the api, i will try it later, and thanks taking your time for giving all these helpful information.

Today i have meeting with biometric devices company what they told me they will make it available for me through An API i have to pay yearly fees for hosting my data online. And i will do an API GET into bubble.

Back to your question, I dont think its inappropriate for a school to request fingerprints for attendance, its no different than asking for a social security number incase a student defaults on private financing.

I would assume the device would be in the room of instruction, probably mounted on the wall. Have you read something that would lead you to believe that there might be some legal ramifications to using biometric tools in schools?
