Finally got back to using my Mooltipass, but I have a problem.

A long time ago now, one of my mooltipass's display stopped working.   (And I hadn't backed things up.)  Moving on.

Today I dug up my second one.
Given the card from the first may be blocked from using the original mooltipass, I would like to know can I use it on/in the second mooltipass?

Yes, I get it that I won't get back all my passwords.

But when I power on the new mooltipass and plug the card in, I get "Unknown card".

I know this isn't right because if I plug in a BRAND NEW card, I get "Create new user".

So is that original card usable on the new one?
Because I don't know what to do to get it to "create new user" when the card is plugged in.

Hello there!

Regarding your old unit, did you contact us? In these cases we usually find a solution :).
You may use the card from your first mooltipass and import your user profile by importing your backup file using Moolticute.

Yes I did mention it.   It is a known "problem".   Display failure.
I sent you the serial number - it was one of the first ones.

No problem.  I accept that what is saved is lost in/no that.
But the card.
Why is it when I plug it into the other Mooltipass it says "Unknown card"?

Moolticute needs me to "unlock" the mooltipass first.  As the display isn't working......  It doesn't work.
This is made worse by the other problem that the scroll wheel didn't always track you turning it.
So slowly turning it to the "pin" doesn't work.

Hello,

As far as I know we "only" had a few display failure cases. Do you have a mini and feel like opening it? we could try to find another display to replace yours. We also have a simple fix for the scroll wheel (a few drops of isopropyl alcohol inside the wheel mechanism).
Am I correctly understanding that you didn't make a backup file using Moolticute using your previous device, to import on your newer one?

Again:  I am not worried about getting the old one working.   I'll take that "on the chin".  (My problem/fault)

I am asking if I can use that card in the new one.   Forgetting anything stored.
Data isn't stored on the card anyway is it?

If it is stored on the card even better - maybe.

But as said:  When I plug in the card to the new machine I get "Unknown card".  Can't go anywhere.

Plugging an unused card I get "Create new (something)" which is good.  I just move on.

Hello,

When the "unknown card" message is showing, simply open moolticute to import the latest backup file you made with your previous device :)

But there is no "latest backup file you made with your previous device"

So what do I do to be able to use the card in/on the new device?

If you're sure you'd like to completely erase your card, you can bring up moolticute's advanced menu by pressing ctrl-shift-f2.
In it you'll find a button to reset the card :)

This is a point of  confusion.

What am I "erasing" on the card?

If there are the "old passwords/stuff" from the old Mooltipass, great.  I know the card's pin.
But it is confusing me because I don't know (am not being told) what is stored on the card.

Sorry, I probably should know.   But I am not having a good time with remembering things.

So how do the mooltipass and card "interact" as in:  what stores what?

Hello there,

I strongly recommend reading our user manual, which will provide better explanations than I :).
The Mooltipass card only contains your encryption key with which the credentials stored on your device are encrypted.

If you have never made a backup of your credentials using Moolticute, the only way to salvage them is to replace your screen so you can generate one.

Ok thanks.

As said, I'll put any stored stuff behind me.  I'm not getting it back.

I'll dig through the manual and see what I can find.

Sorry.  Sometimes I do look at them.   I seem to have skipped it this time.

Yes, shame on me for not having a copy of the manual.  I am sure I downloaded it but it may be archived.

When I go to your webpage and look for the manual - found it - I am given it.
But this is for the BLE version not the MINI.

So half the manual is not applicable.

I'll go into my archives and see what I can find.   Push coming to shove, I'll go through the newer version of the manual.

Thanks.

Appreciated.

1TB of files is a lot of searching if I don't know the exact filename I gave it.
