Mooltipass Mini Scroll Wheel Partnumber

Hello, my mini's scroll wheel is getting old in the tooth. I would like to replace the wheel myself and am looking for the recommended part number to replace it with.

I've checked this group and github (admittedly not thoroughly) and I'm not finding it.

Also, what is the best way to open the mini without damaging it?

Looks like it should be a "SRBE210200", quick search online looks like by Alps/Alpine? Here's the Octopart link: https://octopart.com/srbe210200-alps-20476999

As for opening the HW, I'll let anyone else chime in as I never got around to getting the MiniBLE :-)

Hello there!

There's actually an easier way :)

- unplug the device from USB

- set the device upside down

- put a few drops of isopropyl alcohol inside the wheel mechanism

- turn the wheel

- set the device the right way up

- let it dry :)

This is on the mini, I do not own a ble yet. The issue I'm having is sometimes the wheel misses pulses or sends pulses in the wrong direction. Mechanically, the wheel feels fine.

Well the IPA trick trick did not work. Any word on what the PN for the scroll wheel is? I'm not seeing the mini hardware (NON BLE) anywhere on github anymore.

What alcohol did you use? We never had reports of this trick failing :(.

Unfortunately for me, a second and third try did not work... It appears these switches are discontinued and hard to come by these days. I'd like to take a look inside the mpm and put eyes on teh scroll wheel. Is there a recommend way to open the case on the mpm?

they're indeed out of stock. No recommended way to be honest, but you could try using a screw driving and gently twist it just at the entrance of the smartcard slot :)

Thank you Mathieu. I was able to get the mooltipass mini open by doing as you suggested. Using a screw driver with some cardboard padding I was able to slowly pry the case open from the card slot opening.  In order to get the back cover off without bending or tweaking the front cover I had to pry up a bit, then push it back down several times until the glue bond was sufficiently broken. After several iterations I was able to pull the back cover off roughly evenly with a bit of help from additional prying in the usb opening. It seems the glue used was a type of superglue as there was quite a bit of cyanoacrylate fuming  was visible inside the mpm.

For the thumb wheel, I was able to get it working better again. How exactly, I'm not sure. Attempts were made to remove the thumbwheel from the switch but I was unable to get it off for fear of destroying it. Pulling up on the thumbwheel as far as I felt comfortable and spraying canned air up under the wheel may have been what did the trick. At any rate, the thumb wheel is working again : )

I was able to find a vendor for the scroll wheel switch and I now have two spare switches in hand. TS-005 at Pchub.com

They are $4.46 each and on last check they have around 45 in stock.
