I dont use bluetooth very much, but it seems to work without issue when I do. For the last couple of weeks however, I have not seen the 003 error.
I've removed the silicone case as suggested, and I think you are right, it was interfering in some ways. Removing it improved the feel/response a bit, but scroll wheel responsiveness still feels lacking in comparison to the mini, to me. I spent a little time trying to determine the cause and I think biggest contributor to my issue has to do with the physical differences between the mini's wheel and the ble's wheel. The ble's wheel is smaller in diameter than the mini and the surface of it's edge is much more smooth in comparison with the mini. The mini's wheel, being larger and rougher, seems to "catch" fingerprint ridges well, resulting in actual wheel rotations when a finger is rubbed across its surface. The ble's wheel, on the other hand, will allow the finger to slip past the surface. I think this slipping on the ble is to account for most of my "pin entry experience issues" on the ble. Other contributing factors may be the character animations and the delay experienced between pressing enter and when the next character is available to scroll. I'm going to do some more testing, and hopefully post a video.
On another note, yesterday the ble locked up while sending a password over usb requiring a hard reboot. Later it cycled through 002 messages sitting on my desk until I unplugged it before going to bed.
