Subject: Moody Boat Owners Rendezvous, 12 October, Annapolis
To:

In connection with the boat show at Annapolis in October, Sara and I invite you to the fifth East Coast Chapter of the Americas Branch of the MOA social at 6 PM, Saturday, 12 October 2019.  The location will be as in past years whatever room we have in the former Officers Club/BOQ now Faculty Club at the U.S. Naval Academy, adjacent to the boat show.  Dress is what you wear to the show.  If you are working the show, just come as soon as you can.  We’ll have some beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks, but if anyone wants to bring extra provisions they will be welcomed but are not necessary. It is kind of difficult to wander around the boat show toting a veggie plate or a bottle of wine that slams into everything.

I will not have the exact room number at the Faculty Club until we arrive at the boat show on the 10th, but I’ll send you an e-mail with the number as soon as we arrive and get assigned a room.  The room will probably be on the 3rd floor of the Faculty (formerly Officers) Club at the Academy.  Several previous years’ participants remarked that this was their first opportunity to go inside the Academy, and all were impressed with its beauty, so I recommend arriving on campus a few minutes early and walk around a bit to enjoy the view.  It is lovely. I’ve attached a map with a red line to follow from the boat show to the Faculty Club/BOQ. Enter at the Visitors Gate a block from the boat show tents, and walk up past the faculty housing, the superintendent’s quarters and the chapel. Render honors and homage to John Paul Jones (in the chapel crypt) if so inclined. The Faculty Club is just beyond the chapel along the outside wall.  The entrance to the rooms for the Faculty Club is on the west side, the far side with a parking garage next to it. Beyond that is a parade field. The door is labeled Navy Gateway Inns and Suites. Just open the door, go in, and head up to the 2nd or 3rd floor depending on the room number.  The room number is on the door.

There are security stations at the gates to the Academy, but you only need a picture ID to get in.  A driver’s license will do the trick.  But you MUST have a picture ID.  The hitch will be “weapons.”  You will have to walk through a metal detector.  Not that I think you are carrying, but I’m confident the guards will frown on any knives or flare guns you may have purchased at the show, so if you buy a knife or flare gun, you probably will be denied entrance.  Same thing if you are trying to look “salty” and are carrying your boat knife or a “Leatherman” type device. One attendee years ago was turned away because he had a Leatherman, and only after he stowed it in the booth he was staffing could he then get in.

I have used the MOA on line membership rosters to try to find Moody owners on the east coast, as well as some other contacts to include previous attendees.  If you know of someone I missed, either please encourage them to attend or let me know whom I’ve missed and I’ll contact him or her.  If you do pass on the invitation, please ask that person to contact me if they plan on coming so I’ll have sufficient drink and food.

I would appreciate a RSVP either no later than 15 September or immediately after 1 October so Sara and I can be sure of sufficient starters.   I know these dates are odd, but we are going to be celebrating an anniversary on a canal boat 16-30 September in Canada, and I’m not sure of email on a daily basis on the canal.

If you get lost between the boat show and the Naval Academy or have questions beforehand, either email me or call 843-345-0195. Sara and I hope to see you in Annapolis on the 12th.

Cordially,

Michael & Sara Barrett, White Star  M46 barr...@citadel.edu
