Hi,

I'm having problems downloading the exercises

Hi, I am trying to move forward with Java part 1 and I'm currently on week 3. However, I took a break between weeks 1 & 2 and when I tried to download the exercises for week 2 it did not work. I completed week 2, but didn't submit the assignments until I realized I could only download them once I received 85% from week 1 (I'm at about 80% for week 1). Since I am now on week 3, is it possible to receive the exercise list for week 3? I don't want to have to go back to previous weeks and complete assignments I already did in order to receive the exercise source code. Please let me know if you can assist.

The link to my work is here: PASTE TMC PASTEBIN LINK HERE

Best regards

The short answer is: No, you have to first submit the exercises to the server, then the TMC plugin will allow you to download exercises from the next week.

The long answer: what you need to do is the following:
  1. Go to 'TMC > Download old completed exercises' from the top menu
  2. Download the empty templates for week1 and week2
  3. Go to https://tmc.mooc.fi/mooc/ and login with your credentials (your TMC plugin username/password)
  4. Once logged in, select 2013-OOProgrammingWithJava-PART1 from the list
  5. and go through each assignment and copy-paste your previously submitted solutions into the corresponding template in NetBeans
  6. Finally, submit each assignment to the server.
If you have solved some of the assignments though, but haven't submitted them && also never saved a local copy, then you will have to write them again. But the good news is that repetition is the mother of knowledge ;-) and if you solved it once, it will be easier to solve the next time. And redoing them will make them memorize in your brain even better. (See this cool book review on youtube for more details on how memorizing and learning works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHTV1uyVkhw&list=WL).

I also encourage you to use the button where the icon with an eye is present [its called 'Run tests locally' once highlighted] to be sure you have really made the correct solution. Once the local tests pass, it will offer you to submit the solution to the server. I would also recommend checking the suggested solution to see what could have been done differently and why.

PS: Feel free to ask for help for the questions from week 1/2 and go for the full 100% course coverage ;-).
