He became the companion and friend of Cletus and for the most part, 4-12 was a faithful companion. However, due to the aggressiveness of the animals he was made up of, he was prone to violent mood-swings. Cletus was able to control 4-12's mood with the bud of a special cactus called Blue-Diamond Chola cactus. As these kept him docile due to the high levels of melatonin and SSRIs found in them. Unfortunately, the cactus became rarer each year until 4-12 finally got away from Cletus and went on a rampage throughout the valley before being put down by the citizens of Perfection in self-defense.
4-12 was a hybrid of a rhinoceros, switchback spider, wolverine, skunk, panther, and cougar that was raised by Cletus Poffenberger far outside of Perfection. He escaped when Cletus told him there weren't anymore Blue-Diamond Chola cactus flowers. He went around the valley, goring Harlowe's horse and killing a biker in town. Near the end, Rosalita, Nancy, and Jodi drove off; leaving Burt, Harlow, Tyler, and Cletus to make a flamethrower, which they used to kill 4-12. Cletus buried him a few feet away from Nancy's house with a plank of wood that read, "Project Four-Twelve. 1973-2003. Best pal ever." 4-12 has the distinction of being the only intentional Mixmaster creation to appear in the series that had not mutated beyond its original form.
He was designed to emit a chemical that smells like a mixture of skunk entrails, panther urine, and cougar excrement in order to nauseate the enemy, it also makes him inedible to any Graboid as El Blanco found out; spitting 4-12 out as a result of the chemical. His sight strangely resembles a sniper-scope sight which allows him the use of X-ray vision (Cletus admitted he stole this idea from Superman).
Due to his genetic make-up he was naturally aggressive, though Cletus kept him calm through regular doses of Blue-Diamond Chola cactus flowers, which became rarer every year. He is about six-feet long and about three-feet tall at the shoulder. He had numerous other DNA traits bonded to him, including silicon bacterial DNA to toughen his hide.
Speed and Agility: 4-12 was an agile hunter as he was able to run at high speeds. 4-12 was able to pounce on a horse, but unable to outrun a jeep that was carrying the weight of a grown man and two grown women. He was able to make quick turns, using his short tail for superb counter-balance.
Strength and Combat: His strength was capable of knocking down a door that was nailed shut using beams and the extra weight of a heavy barrel by his owner to hold 4-12 down but in short time he was able to break it down with little room to build up momentum. With rhinoceros DNA, 4-12 had the charging power to break through a small shop made out of wood, along with metal fencing, which takes bit more force from his attacks to take it down. As his for combat capabilities, 4-12 was mostly shown to use his horn to gore his enemies.
Keen Sight: 4-12 had vision that was similar to a sniper scope, complete with a targeting reticule, which allowed him to lock-on to prey as shown by how on-target he was when he ran down the wild boar. He has X-ray vision, an idea from Superman comics which Cletus added in to 4-12's DNA. He was presumably given the ability of night vision, due to him being created for combat in nocturnal environments and to clear-out tunnels; even though the ability wasn't shown. It's possible that his night vision came from the DNA of a wolverine.
Endurance and Stamina: 4-12 proved to have high levels of stamina, being able to run long distances for long periods of time with little-to-no exhaustion; perfect for hunting and taking out enemies over an extended campaign. He was even shown to have high endurance, possibly from the rhinoceros DNA, as he was able to take being both swallowed and violently expelled by El Blanco and quickly get back up. Even bullets didn't seem to faze the creature much, as he didn't seem to shown any sign of trauma or pain of any kind.
Defense Mechanism: 4-12 was designed to emit a chemical that smells like a mixture of skunk entrails, panther urine, and cougar excrement. Used to nauseate the enemy, it also makes him inedible to any Graboid as El Blanco found out; vomiting 4-12 out alive and well.
We believe that teens who are connected to a life-giving church and develop healthy meaningful relationships can follow Jesus for a lifetime. We also believe that these same teens will use their God-given gifts and passions to make a huge impact on the Earth!
Therefore, we meet in small groups during the week at New Song Church.. The main goals of our Small Groups are to help teens grow in both their relationship with God and their relationship with one another.
SERVE DAY is an opportunity for the teens, parents, and leaders to come together and show the love of Christ to members of our community. We schedule special service projects for our teens ranging from yard clean-up to food pantry assistance and everything in-between.
4:TWELVE NIGHT is our weekly worship experience geared especially for teens. 4:TWELVE NIGHT consists of food, games, prizes, live worship, and an in-person teaching from our Student Pastor. This is a great opportunity for teens to invite friends, family, and classmates to experience Jesus in a fun and safe environment.
Poffenberger worked for Proudfoot Corporation in Nevada, which intended to employ 4-12 as a deadly war weapon in Vietnam. When the project was discontinued, the laboratory was destroyed to keep secrecy, but Poffenberger saved the young specimen and raised it while hiding in the desert for the next 30 years.
4-12 is a sturdy beast with a mammalian posture, hairless leathery skin, relatively short legs, clawed four-toed feet, a reptilian-like tail and a head resembling a shark's, but also equipped with a single black horn in the middle of its forehead, and red eyes. In spite of its somewhat reptilian and selachian features, its genetic composition is a combination of mammals and arachnids.
Bred for combat, 4-12 is known for its viciousness and extreme speed, being well capable of outrunning a horse. It patrols its territory in a grid-like pattern and seeks out targets to kill by impaling them with its horn. It possesses x-ray vision, allowing it to locate prey behind walls. Its skin secretes a noxious substance that is so foul-tasting, it causes a Graboid who had ambushed and swallowed 4-12 to spit it out in disgust.
The flowers of the Blue Diamond Cholla cactus (Cylindropuntia multigeniculata) contains large concentrations of melatonin and SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) which can calm down 4-12's violent behaviour.
4-12 was just a pup when the corporation decided to blow up the laboratory in 1973 to cover up evidence of the project's existence. Poffenberger, who had created the animal, managed to save it and raised it for the next 30 years, while hiding from both the authorities and his former employers. Despite the creature's natural hostility, Poffenberger repeatedly described 4-12 as the "best pal" a man could have, and had a lot of affection for it.
Poffenberger tried to talk to and calm down his creation, but 4-12 still attacked him as well as Burt Gummer, Tyler Reed and Harlowe Winnemucca, forcing Gummer to kill it using a homemade improvised flamethrower.
Project 4-12 appeared in the 2003 TV series called Tremors. Project 4-12 is the earliest and most long-lived creation of Mixmaster. He was created by in 1973 and was bred for combat in Vietnam, specifically designed to hunt down the Vietcong in the jungles of Hochi Provence in a nocturnal environment and clear out tunnels. The lab he was created in was closed thanks to Proudfoot's shady dealings and Cletus Poffenberger, his creator, couldn't bare to let the young animal die before it had a chance to live stole him away from the secret Proudfoot Corporation building in Perfection, Nevada before it was destroyed and instead was taken on the run with it from both the corporation and the government.
He became the companion and friend of Cletus and for the most part 4-12 was a faithful companion but due to aggressiveness of the animals he was made up of he was prone to violent mood swings which Cletus was able to control with a special cactus bud called Blue-Diamond Chola Cactus as these kept him docile. Absolutely! We pay artists! It makes us a tad crazy when people assume an artist can work for free. Being an artist is a profession just as wonderful and necessary to the world as being a teacher, electrician, or banker. Think about it...we want to DCS and that takes experience, materials, training. Not that much different than when we need plumbing added to our homes; we want someone trained and experienced to do that plumbing and unless it's your Uncle Joe doing a favor, it's worth paying for it (and...sometimes it turns out to be cheaper than fixing Uncle Joe's "free help."!). So, yes, we compensate artists fairly to honor their extraordinary value and contributions to our community. Interested in being considered for public art projects, email us at [email protected].
