Last night when I was working in PS CC my computer froze after I added type and tried to change the font (this was the first type added to this file). I took it as a sign to stop working for the evening. This morning when I launched PS CC I got this warning.

PS CC managed to launch and so I went on to working, until I ran into the font issue again. I could create type and type it out but when I went to change the font PS CC responded with the spinning beach ball. I have had to force quit every time.

-Went into (preferences - performance) and unchecked the use graphic processor. Which I think was turned off in the first place but cannot remember anymore. Is this better to be checked or unchecked? I would think checked but at this point I have no confidence in what I think is best for PS. I should mention that the error has happened only twice, once after the very first time I launched it this morning, and then one other random time in the probably 15 times I've launched PS today. Since this has only happened twice can I speculate that it is a fluke? Should this lead me to think that my graphics card is NOT bad?

As for your comment "When we start checking boxes to the point which we cannot remember if they were checked or not it can make matters worse, but hopefully not in your case." This is good advice, and it makes me laugh at myself for doing that...hopefully it will be ok.

Maybe it's worth mentioning that I'm not having any of these issues in Illustrator or Indesign. Also, I wouldn't think this would matter but I bring it up because of the timing, I recently used Photoshop for an animation project. I don't usually use PS for animation, could I have inadvertently hit something in PS?

Ended up contacting Adobe. Spent most of the day with them to find out that it is my graphics card that is bad. I'm posting this for anyone who has the same problem down the road. Reboot in safe mode was the final clue.

Lindsayl98589377 I feel your pain. I ended up on the phone for several hours with Adobe. While it stunk that it took that long it all boiled down to fonts. The tech at Adobe loaded off all of my fonts and moved them to a folder. I am slowly moving them back one font set at time to pin point which one was the problem. If I were you I would just contact Adobe as soon as you can. They will take control of your computer and figure it out for you. If you're not quite ready for that yet try the following link, that is the list Adobe runs through. -fonts-photoshop.html

Ok I'm back with a new computer and the same problem. This time I don't get an error, photoshop just freezes up when I go to use the character box. It worked for a little while on my new laptop but is happening again within the last week. I use photoshop for my work so I have to get this figured out.

Hello, everyone. Cutting to the chase I recently started running into a similar problem with CC18. This is what I discovered. The temporarily freezing issue only happened when selecting/previewing a font type on a text that had been resized using the FREE TRANSFORM method (in Windows Ctrl T and drag in either direction to stretch / shrink / make the text bigger or smaller), instead of the traditional way of setting a font size number.

At this point I had 2 different ways to go: inserting a new text and avoiding the "free transform" method or... if the problematic text is already there, using the "Reset Character" option which you can find in the Character menu (right top corner) and then adjust the size through size number. And that's it, NO MORE FREEZING DURING FONT TYPE PREVIEW.

I had done some research online and tried different recommended solutions, like the ones related to graphic card, but the problem was still there (which was a relief considering I own a decent and expensive graphic card).

As an additional and IMPORTANT note,I have noticed other font related problems when using the FREE TRANSFORM method, like spacing not working properly. So I would recommend avoiding this method until your text/paragraph is fully redacted and you don't need to make other font modifications.

Finally managed to solve it . In Photoshop, open the Character Panel menu option (hamburger icon on the top of the character panel) if System Layout is checked, click on it to uncheck it. Your font should now appear like how its set up in FontSelf. You may need to click on Fractional Widths but just unchecking System Layout worked for me. Not sure why that works, but it does.

Hey @franz No worries at all. To be honest it was completely new to me as well. I was just exploring the character and paragraph panel to see if I could see anything unusual that might be causing the kerning and tracking to look different.

The above image contains an error that I do not know how to resolve. I had never used "Adobe Fonts" before. It was formally called "Type Font". I decided to look for a new font for the project in the picture. After I finished the composition, I attempted to save the project, and now for some reason, I cannot save the project. It only tells to me possibly disable the font that is really not an option as there is further work that I need to do on the design, including alternatives that include the font we have chosen.

Adobe Fonts were previously called Typekit Fonts. They should normally cause you no problems using them with Photoshop. I suggest you don't ignore the issue as you may have some kind of corruption that might cause you to loose your work in the future. I suggest you make a copy of the file and rework the fonts, perhaps testing with other fonts to see if you can isolate the issue.

Thank You for your response! It helped! I actually isolated the problem font, and it turns out that it was a font that I used on an older Mac that I owned that recently died. Therefore, when I restored from a backup to a newer mac, I guess that font may have become corrupt. All of the fonts that I used in my composition from Adobe Fonts seem to be unaffected.

I had the same issue. Same error. I cannot even save the document any longer. The font I am using is not corrupt, it is a system font that I use in all other applications without a problem. Also, in some PSD documents the same font will work, in other documents I get the error (same subset). This is a Photoshop bug that I have to deal with occasionaly.

Unfortunately, Adobe's cloud font system (typekit) has never been stable for me. I consistently have issues across all apps using the fonts. They often don't load. Browsing through them is really sluggish and buggy. Often gets stuck. Fonts produce occasional errors. Have mentioned this in many posts. Seems like Adobe likes to "block" 3rd party fonts by producing these weird errors. When this error appears, it breaks my document, as I cannot change the font, nor can I save the file anymore.

Not sure why this is, but it has been around for a while now and when you get this error just before a deadline, it is very stressfull and a real nuissance!

Adobe simply denies this issue exists.

Just to be clear, the issue is not so much the fact that Adobe has issues with some fonts, but that when these issues occur, Adobe blocks you from saving your documents or changing the font. And that hasnt been fixed since 2014.

I think I found a solution (Windows): I restarted Photoshop with administrator priviledges and then it worked. I did check the font and it was Dharma, which is an Adobe Typekit font. Seems like this is an access rights / priviledge issue.

Would be great if after eight years, Adobe would finally get their cloud fonts to work without constant issues. I am spending way to much time in the forums because of repeating font issues.

I've recently exported an image from Microsoft Expression Design to a .psd format, but when I open the exported .psd & attempt to create a new font layer, any font I choose will be italicized but only slightly. I'm positive that my font style is not set to be italicized, and when I select Italic the font will become visibly more italic.

Photoshop comes with fake bold/italic settings to provide fonts that don't naturally support it with those settings. But if that setting gets turned on, it'll stay on until it's turned off. As you can see in my screenshot, the font still says "Regular" even though the fake italics is pressed.

I can create a new type layer in Photoshop (2020 21.0.3) but if I try to change the font from the font dropdown menu I get the spinning beachball and a message that Photoshop is not responding. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop as well as done each of the recommended fixes found here -- -fonts-photoshop.html - and nothing has solved the issue. Any thoughts?

What happens when you run under Safe mode (all your fonts except system turn off) If it works then maybe uninstall the fonts and start again. Sometimes just starting in Safe mode clears the system caches and fixes your problem but I assume something could be corrupt in one of those fonts.

Perhaps I did something wrong, but after going through all the options multiple times, still, no luck on changing a font in a new or old .psd file without Photoshop "not responding." I also kept it at that point for 2 hours to see if it would eventually respond, and no luck. Finally used Adobe Cleaner and that didn't fix it either, but now InDesign (my main software for work) is not opening. It's getting stuck on launch ats "starting up service registry."

I have the same problem, from one day to the other. I have a maxed out mac 2019, i can't believe it's because i have too many fonts. I am a graphic designer. And this is a product i pay 1000 euro per year.

Did you ever have this problem resolved? This JUST started to be an issue as of last night. I highly doubt I have "too many fonts" but I've tried every step that Adobe suggested to no avail. I'm trying to simply choose another font to type out a few words and finish a project of mine. I even ran the latest update available today in hopes that it would resolve this bug but it didn't. Beyond frustrated!!
