I noted the availability of Tinos Serif in another comment; it is virtually identical to Liberation Serif except Liberation Serif has about 672 glyphs, and Tinos has 2,583. Both of these fonts, as noted, are metrically compatible replacements for Times New Roman.
There are also fonts which evoke the feeling of Cambria, although they are not metrically compatible. Droid Serif, with 896 glyphs, is nearly identical to Noto Serif which has 2,414 glyphs.
I tied that now with the font i downloaded times new roman and it is same size thanks,i tried to type just times new roman or word fontes, something like that so in one program eula i think asked me to save that and now when i go to libre office i have that font, but i wantedto ask would i see it on office when my
proff.in collage open it?Thanks a lot,i appriciate help
Just in case this might be of interest to others checking this thread, Tinos, from Ascender Corp, is also a free, open source font, metrically compatible with Times New Roman, and has a huge range of glyphs. Also an excellent replacment font, should such be needed.
One additional info. In Ubuntu there should already be Liberation fonts. There are very very similar to Microsoft fonts and this Liberation fonts are free of use (no restriction). Check them out, I think professor will most probably not notice the difference: Liberation fonts - Wikipedia
For my job I open hundred of AI files every day. Most of them have this old Myriad-Roman font that is no longer used/supported by Adobe. It has since been updated to a different name. I did some research on it a few months ago, and now I'm back because it's really bothering me again.
The old Myriad font that yours is indicating is the Postscript name for the Type 1 version that Adobe licensed before they started replacing them with OpenType versions, literally over 20 years ago. The new name is Myriad Pro and has many benefits over the old version. You SHOULD switch to that. and pretty much everyone should have it and if for some bizarre reason you don't, it's available through Adobe fonts.
You will be required to manually search and change from one to the other in the documents; it won't be automatic, and there's the potential for some reflow as the fonts were tweaked when upgraded to Opentype..
There's no point trying to use the old version, and if you're trying to install so-called versions of it from your friends or from all over the interent, if they aren't Adobe Type 1 versions, they are knockoff clones and aren't worth your while going forward. besides, Type 1 is essentially dead, so you will have to replace them next year anyway.
A few weeks ago I wrote a document, using the Times New Roman font. I opened the same document today, and the font doesn't look like Times New Roman anymore (despite it being the selected font). It looks like any typical Sans font, instead.
Currently writing my thesis and find my self with the same issue. However I can not find TNR anywhere on my mac. I'm definitely no technological genius, but I've found my way to Font book, and tried to restore, yet no TNR. I have also managed some how to fins two Libraries in finder some how with two different Font folders with different content, but no TNR there either only Times, which won't be accepted as font in my thesis. In word it says TNR but it's clearly helvetica being used. I've also tried to press the font replacement thingy in word, but it says that all fonts in use is in this document are available. So i don't know what to do. I used to be able to write in TNR with my former word version, yet when i open old documents written in TNR they appear in Helvetica as well. please help!
Actually, it's a font created by Monotype Corporation. Both Office for Mac and OS X install a copy of it. If a user has never installed any MS Office product, Times New Roman should still be on your system in the /Library/Fonts/ folder. The only reason it wouldn't be is someone deleted the fonts from the drive.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
I took a look at this thread. After looking in /Macintosh HD/Library/, I discovered that Times New Roman was sitting in the "Fonts Disabled" folder. I moved everything in that folder to the "Fonts" folder and the issue was resolved.
Macintosh HD> Library > Fonts and find Times New Roman, and click on it. It will lead you to Font Mangement where you will find Times New Roman is displayed as "off", right click on it > enable font. Problem solved!
In Latin script typography, roman is one of the three main kinds of historical type, alongside blackletter and italic. Sometimes called normal, it is distinct from these two for its upright style (relative to the calligraphy-inspired italic) and its simplicity (relative to blackletter).
During the early Renaissance, roman (in the form of Antiqua) and italic type were used separately. Today, roman and italic type are mixed, and most typefaces are composed of both an upright roman style and an associated italic or oblique style.
Early roman typefaces show a variety of designs, for instance resembling what would now be considered blackletter.[5][6][7] Printers and typefounders such as Nicolas Jenson and Aldus Manutius in Venice and later Robert Estienne in France codified the modern characteristics of Roman type, for instance an 'h' with a nearly straight right leg, serifs on the outside of the capital 'M' and 'N', and 'e' with level cross stroke, by the 1530s.[8][9]
Times # 20New # 20Roman is the culprit I believe as in the report that you generated, it says that it's missing on your machine. When I check the pdf in Adobe Acrobat, it doesn't mention such font in the document properties.
The message seems to say the opposite of what you suggest. It says you haven't got Times#20New#20Roman,Bold. This is not surprising, this mangled name exists only inside a PDF, it is no real font. The message says your default font will be used. So the problem surely is that your default font is this weird thing. So, nobody else is going to see this problem!
How can I change the default font that Illustrator uses automatically for replacement? Of course, I can manually do it by going to the type menu, then finding the replacement. Is there a default setting that I can change?
I haven't tested your file, just read your message. This all seems normal. You import the PDF, and then you fix the font if needed. The Find Fonts button may help since you surely have a Times font of some kind.
Hello, well this is the exact same problem I am facing now. I have a PDF document with heavy text, tables, and formulas. No way in this world can I manually choose the missing Times Font and replace it! I still haven't got the answer to this. In case you have, will be grateful if you can post!
@scottytrees I dont think it is working, it installed Times New Roman but not Arial only Arial Black which is like arial but bolded. Also i tried customizing the terminal like TechHut which included installing powerline fonts as one of the dependencies and it did not work. I think fonts are not installing correctly on my pc i dont know why.
You may not find RPMs containing WebCore Fonts in fedora repositories. You can either compile them from Source or download RPMs from third-party repositories meant for CentOS. Fortunately RPMs for CentOS are mostly compatible with Fedora.
I see dated versions all over the internet. Somehow my personal repo holds:
The TTF is most probably fine. The red exclamation mark means that the OT features in the reverse-engineered .glyphs file are not up to date. I recommend reading this if you want to import existing fonts:

This is a single-spaced document written in 12-point font, Times New Roman. It comprises about 500 words. If one copied the text of this page into a Microsoft Word Document with standard 1-inch margins on each side and printed it while retaining the formatting rules mentioned above, the text would neatly fill a sheet of 8.5 x 11-inch computer paper. This paragraph, for example, is being perfectly composed with such a page in mind. Like how a tailored shirt should fit just expectedly so.
My new HP Officejet Pro 8610 will not print documents, spreadsheets, or printer test pages containing Times New Roman font (of any size). It does not put a job in the print queue. In Excel, I receive the "Generic_2_Q294552" error message.
What I have done so far to troubleshoot the last 3 days: Reinstalled the printer (3 times), the most recent today with an installer issued today; rebooted the printer; rebooted the computer after each significant change; updated the firmware in the printer; tried two different USB cables; tried printing the fonts in Microsoft Word 7, Microsoft Excel 7, and directly from the font file; reinstalled the Times New Roman fonts from backup; visited the forums and tried all of the solutions I could for any similar problem; tried the winprint, hpzppw71, and hpzpplhn print processors with both RAW and NT EMF 1.008 data types; found and repaired all problems I could find with any hardware and software, as well as updating all software to the latest version.
