I have Arcgis for Autocad and am using it. I would like only 30cm resolution world images, even when zooming out to a very large area, as if I am inserting 30cm resolution images. I do not want the resolution of the world image to change even if I change the scale of the the Autocad viewport. Any suggestions.
The World Imagery is a service configured by the service owner. The way it behaves is the result of the configuration. Most times, the consumer of the service cannot change much. In my experience with regard to the services provided by Esri, you wont be able to modify the behavior.
The World Imagery and other maps found in the Esri Maps gallery are a map services. Map Services in ArcGIS for AutoCAD are optimized for fast background dynamic display. Based on your screen resolution ArcGIS for AutoCAD is going to fetch an image that looks good on the screen. When you zoom in you get a higher resolution image to cover your screen. When you zoom out you get more area covered by the same resolution of image but at a different scale. If you want to stop the Automatic residing of the image you can zoom in and then set the Map Services properties to display ON DEMAND rather than DYNAMIC that way no matter how far you zoom in or out you'll have the same image size and resolution. You may want to cover more area. In that case you would need to make a separate reference to the same map service to also set it to ON DEMAND and have it cover a different area. All of the Esri Maps Map Service can also be found here by making a connection to the Online Server (
server.arcgisonline.com /ArcGIS/services/). Here is another ArcGIS Online server you can connect to...( ) each with lots of useful content. There is a bonus tool on ArcGIS Online and companion video on YouTube that automates this process to cover larger areas with multiple map services at higher resolutions.
I need to start AutoCAD from a windows service. This service is running with a "special" domain user, which is created for just running my service. This user is admin on the machine, and this user installed AutoCAD 2014 on the machine. The code I'm using to start AutoCAD 2014 from C#:
I have a reference to the AutoCAD COM library. (Interop.AutoCAD.dll)If I run the above code with my logged in user, AutoCAD starts and I can do anything I want with SendCommand. If I put it in a service (see Update), start the service with my "special" user the CreateInstance command throws this:
The thing is, that acad.exe starts, but stops consuming memory around 44 MBytes, and after 1-2 minutes, I get the exception. Usually, acad.exe starts with 112 MByte of memory consumed. If I run the service in the logged in user's name, everything works as expected. Both users are in the same user groups, same domain. So my code is essentially works. But the goal is, to have a server program, that can run AutoCAD stuff. How can I run AutoCAD on a server in this scenario? According to some posts around the net, this can be caused by access rights problems. But what rights do I have to give to the "special" user?
UPDATE: As I posted it on the official Autodesk forum, I can't start AutoCAD from a service. The user does not matter.Someone on the official forum stated, that AutoCAD can not be run from a service. Either this, or something with the licensing could cause this behaviour... Altough, I'm still open for any solution to start AutoCAD from a service. (Windows Service hosted WCF, to be more precise.)
UDPATE2: Since I did not find a solution for the problem, and AutoCAD does not stop with a useful error message, I solved this without using Windows Service. Currently I'm hosting my WCF solution in a command prompt solution, and running it as a user. This is as ugly as it gets. I can't even count the probelms it will bring. But deadlines are deadlines...I'm still open for real solutions.
You may try automation with AutoCAD Console, check accoreconsole.exe at the AutoCAD folder. You'll need to create a script file that contains the list of command that you want to run (including .NET custom command) then launch the console to run this script.
I'm trying to find out how to change the service of a line after the line has been routed. The tag format for new lines works fine, the service can be chosen from a selection list, but I can't change the service after the line is routed.
The service property is set to "Acquire mode: from P3d Line Group.Service" Do I have to change it to "Override Mode"? If so, how do I change the service listed in the Line Number Tag. Example: "109-FG-1CS1-4" should be changed to "109-FW-1CS1-4". I'd hate to delete the entire line just to change one aspect of the Line Number Tag.
Thank you for the tip, but when I did as you instructed, the "Service" column was greyed out. I believe that the column is locked. I also tried exporting to excel, unlocking the cells, changing the service then importing back into Data Manager. It didn't help?
After changing the service in the Data Manager, you should then select the line/components that need to be changed or corrected. Then from the properties pallet choose "New" from the Line Number Tag selection list. The service property has been pulled from the Data Manager and you can assign the new corrected line number to the selected components.
This readme contains the latest information regarding the installation and use of the Service Pack. It is strongly recommended that you read the entire document before you apply the Service Pack to your product. For reference, you should save this document to your hard drive or print a copy.
When you apply this Service Pack while running AutoCAD Architecture, do not click the "Automatically close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete" option. Instead, close AutoCAD Architecture manually, and click the "Do not close applications. (A Reboot may be required.)" option in the dialog box. It is recommended that you reboot your system after installing the Service Pack.

Note: To enable the autoloading changes to acad.dvb, uninstall the AutoCAD 2013 VBA Enabler, and download and install the latest AutoCAD 2013 VBA module that was updated for the changes made in Service Pack 1 for AutoCAD 2013.
Start AutoCAD with this switch to disable AutoLISP execution in the current AutoCAD session, including all LSP, FAS, and VLX files. This switch is useful for preventing malicious AutoLISP code from automatically loading and executing.
Valid strings include the following:
"" = Automatically loads the acad.lsp/fas/vlx, acaddoc.lsp/fas/vlx, acad.dvb files only in the specified folders and no other locations, including the current drawing folder. To minimize the possibility of loading a malicious application, always set the AUTOLOADPATH system variable to the unique folder where your authorized applications are located.
"" (empty string) or "." (period) - No path restriction. Automatically loads the acad.lsp/fas/vlx, acaddoc.lsp/fas/vlx, acad.dvb files found in the AutoCAD startup folder, the drawing folder, and the AutoCAD search path, in that order. This duplicates AutoCAD 2012 behavior and is not recommended.Changes to acad2013.lsp and acad2013doc.lsp Autoloading Behavior
