Senior Application Developer (PHP, Zend and iSeries/AS400)
Location - Seattle, Washington

Job Summary and Mission

This job contributes to Starbucks success by developing cost-effective
information technology solutions by creating, modifying and supporting
software applications. Participate in requirements gathering and
Functional Design activities. Design, develop, test, debug, document,
implement and support complex software applications. May coordinate
activities of a project team and assist in monitoring project
schedules and costs. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks
Guiding Principles.

Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not
limited to the following:

Designs, develops, implements, documents, and tests changes to an
application subsystem. Codes, tests, debugs, documents, and implements
complex software applications. Creates more complex prototypes and
ensures deliverables are high quality and meet user expectations.
Supports system and integration testing activities. Initiates design
reviews for new applications and adheres to software development
standards.
Participates in systems planning, scheduling and implementation.
Collaborates with project team to keep projects on schedule by
coordinating activities, monitoring project schedules, and costs.
Participates in, leads and mentors others in requirements gathering
and functional specification activities. May assist Functional
Analysts in completing deliverables and translates business
requirements and functional designs into technical designs. Assist
with development of functional designs and resolving complex design
issues. May act as senior technical expert to consult with and analyze
the business needs.
Coaches and mentors other less experienced team members. Performs
cross- training and facilitates information sharing among team
members.
Collaborates with team members to recommend new software development
technologies and development processes.
Resolves and helps mitigate production application issues and assists
less experienced application developers as needed. Works with other
business and technology teams to support resolution of end-user
inquiries. Contributes to the documentation of production support
processes. Anticipates long term support issues and plans for
corrective actions. May perform root cause analysis to identify
permanent resolutions to software or business process issues.
Working with application development leads, establishes, maintains and
ensures compliance with standards for development, testing and
documentation.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science/an applicable IT field
and/or equivalent experience.
Extensive knowledge of PHP/Java web application development (5+
years) using the Software Development Life Cycle
Extensive knowledge of CSS, JQuery, Javascript, XML, AJAX, XLS, DOM,
HTML(5), JSON and cross browser Development and W3C standards (5+
years)
Strong experience using WAMP / LAMP architecture
Experience with other object oriented programming languages
Working knowledge of Design Templates and Frameworks.
Must be familiar with MVC model and templating engines such as Smarty
Proficiency in another high level programming language (C/C++, Java,
etc)
Experience with Linux/Unix command line, operating system and shell
scripting (2+ years)
Experience with MySQL, Oracle, DB2, or another relational database
system (5+ years)
3+ years experience with a modern IDE (Eclipse, Zend Studio, Coda,
etc)
Experience with Apache, Tomcat and Web Services (2+ years)
Experience in Version control tools like SVN, SDM, CVS, Git or other
source control software (2+ years)Familiarity with multi-threaded
application development and Procedural languages and interfaces.
Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills and proficiency
with debug tools
Knowledge or experience with IBM iSeries server platform and
familiarity with RPG ILE/AS 400, CL preferred
Knowledge of Websmart programming is a plus.
