Celebrate National Public Lands Day with a new trail tour and cleanup in Montopolis. Park and gather at the Montopolis Practice Fields. Walk the new 1-mile decomposed granite and natural surface trail in the Montopolis Greenbelt built by American Youth Works and funded by the Austin Parks Foundation and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and suppoted by the National Park Service's Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program.
Visit the McElhenney Oak Grove.
Learn how neighbors organized, acquired 20 acres of donated land, wrote grants and funded trail building.
Collect trash along the route and carry trash bags back to the parking lot. If you fill a bag you’ll receive a wrist band that you can use at the National Public Lands Day ‘after-party’ at Zilker Park’s Rock Garden for FreeBird burritos!.
Bring a water bottle, mosquito repellant of your choice and sun screen.
