I noticed that montezuma-indexfiles has been added to contrib/. This
is very convenient for me, thanks. But I also noticed that it was
added together with the _darcs directory. Was this on purpose? Looking
at sbcl-1.0.25/contrib/ I don't see that they add any revision control
information.

That's because their contrib is maintained directly within the
main repository. Since you use an external repository I have added
its metadata folder to Montezuma's SVN repository for easy updating.
