Super excited about our upcoming course rooted in East Palo Alto that starts on March 15th. Normally we have a little more advance notice before announcing one of these, but we spent some time nailing down our venues and partnerships and we really did well this time!

Our training will be hosted at the offices and gardens of  Fresh Approach which is a new organization built on the foundation of the successes of Collective Roots, our long-time favorite organization in EPA (East Palo Alto). EPA sits right in the mix of perhaps the most glaringly contrasted gentrification issues in the entire Bay Area and perhaps all of California. With Facebook in the neighborhood, long-time resident people of color and it's still-present agricultural history, EPA is an exciting place to be working with permaculture indeed!

We also have some super sweet field-trips lined up, including TomKat Ranch, Amma's Orchard, and more.

As a side note that is actually pretty big news, UPISF and some friends and allies have formed a team that is participation in the Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge. If you dont know what that is, its one of those huge, lavishly funded (Rockefeller Foundation) design challenges that are normally attended by big-wiggy engineering and design firms. Amongst all those well-accomplished international teams, our little team is flying the PERMACULTURE flag tall and proud.

We are currently beginning our work with Marin City to pilot a specially adapted permaculture training that focuses on the compounded issues of sea-level rise, resiliency, and economic and racially oppressed populations. We are trainign leaders who will be able to create their own civic plans and designs, that meet their own real needs, despite what large developers and governmenst might have on the table. We are creating a framework for communities to develop what we can a "Peoples Plan". A development plan for every community created BY the people and FOR the people.

There will be plenty of ways to learn more and even participate to some degree in that work during our courses this year and we hope to bring that same exact concept, refined from our experiences in Marin City, to East Palo Alto in the near future.

That said, come on in and join the fun! Spread the word, Share it with a friend!

Heres that sign up link one more time:  http://www.upisf.com/palo-alto-spring-2018/

Hope to see you there!
