Neighbors,
I sent the below letter on 10/15/08 to Jon Anderson, editor Hoover
Edition, it also went to the mayor and council. I am angry that Lorna
Rd. is such a mess!!

Jon,

As I was reading the paper this morning I read that a woman who was
shot while walking her dog at The Grand at Galleria Apts. died. This
piece, like the first I read about her shooting, was 2 paragraphs in
Metro Briefs in Section C

If you look at apartment calls to Hoover Police for June, July and
August, 2008,there were 623, 712, and 635 calls respectively to all
Hoover apartments by police. The largest number of calls are to The
Grand at Galleria,The Park at Galleria, Alpine Village, Ridge
Crossings, and Riverchase Landing. That is lot.
I also read about 2 stabbings lately, one was in one of our apartments
and another at a club.

Why aren't we hearing more about crime along Lorna Road and seemingly
in our apartments?
As everybody knows, the environment in places along Lorna Road is
dismal. Hartwood Apts. has a huge dumpster overflowing regularly and
very visible. Places that used to be landscaped are now dust and dirt.
Men wander and sit throughout the day. It hurts my heart to see and
hear about this area.

I know the city is concerned, but why can't some attention be given to
trying to improve that area?
Seems like a taskforce that would get apartment owners, managers,
police ad city officials together would be a start. First there needs
to be recognition that there is a problem that needs attention.

Thanks,
Eileen Lewis
