Dear Supervisor Hopkins ,
I was not shocked, but was appalled and furious to read of sheriff Essex's response to your reasonable requests during the terrible fires. You were clearly trying to aid your constituents and their threatened livestock. This man clearly has problems with women in authority. I'm reminded of his outrageous and profane reaction to his being informed of critical public health regulations that his dept was expected to help enforce for the health and safety of our county population during these dangerous times of Covid . He was clearly both inappropriate in his outrageous language, and dangerous to our community health when he openly expressed his disdain in reaction to being informed his employees were expected to enforce this . It's interesting not one person has been cited for not wearing a mask out here . Our unincorporated area is swamped by tourists not wearing masks throughout the year, but especially in fine weather. I've never once seen any sheriff even speak to a tourist, even when our Monte rio beach was packed with tourists not wearing masks. They come from all over the country bringing virus on board as well as money to spend, and I've never once seen any sheriff challenge them . It's not surprising Sonoma county has been stuck in the purple , and now red stage for so long, as our areas keep getting in inoculated by Covid carrying tourists from everywhere.
I want you to know, that though I do not have the details of your encounter with this sheriff, I believe you , and stand with you in support. He clearly has problems with women in positions of authority, and quite possibly, women in general. I'm glad you immediately reported him. I'm sorry you had to experience being threatened by him. I can only imagine how he speaks to average women in his professional job as a sheriff. I would not feel safe in interacting with someone in such a position of power that is so clearly unable to control himself. We need this incompetent, clearly emotionally challenged and professionally deficient sheriff out of office ASAP. Please let us know what we can do to be supportive to you about this . I will be active in supporting any challenger, (though hopefully a woman) to sheriff Essex when his term is up (if we cannot get him out earlier.) He's clearly not up to the professional standards of his job, and is a disgrace.
Finally, I have a button which says " I believe her", which I have worn for Anita Hill, and more recently in response to the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for that beer bash drinking ,sexual assault promoting new Supreme Court judge. Women everywhere know men like sheriff Essex, and they do not belong in positions of responsibility and authority.
Sincerely , Christmas Leubrie RN ( retired) Monte Rio homeowner and resident

There is so much to enjoy in these beautiful spring days. Yet the second year of serious drought cause us all to look at protecting our environment in the face of low flows as well as our communities with a long fire season coming up. The water agency is advising that we will need to conserve 30-50% of our water in order to have enough to last through October. In every action from Spring gardening to daily habits, please be aware of your water usage and conserve water.

Vaccine distribution
As of Wednesday, Sonoma County had administered a total of 295,693 doses.
This means 27 percent of our 16 and older population is now fully vaccinated, while 46 percent has received at least one dose.
The County’s vaccine distribution website, SoCoEmergency.org/vaccine is continually updated, providing detailed information about the vaccination rollout.
New vaccine eligibility issued by the state
● On April 1, all California residents 50 and older will be eligible for vaccination.
● On April 15, all residents 16 and older will be eligible for vaccination.
● While Gov. Newsom made the announcement last week to expect significant increases in the number of doses, Sonoma County Health officials have yet to see any increase in our allocation of vaccine doses, with this week’s allocation being flat or slightly smaller than the previous week. Until we receive the promised large increases in the supply of doses, we urge everyone who is eligible and wants to make an appointment to be patient. The County has created the capacity to do far more vaccinations that we are currently administering each week. We just need more doses. The Board of Supervisors this week sent the state a letter requesting more doses.
Reopening metrics
Sonoma County remains in the red tier of the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. If the case rate and vaccination progress continues to improve, we anticipate moving into the orange tier the week of April 5th. More information on what the orange tier looks like is here.
