Hi Christmas,

Moscow Road continues to be a big priority for us. The lack of on-the-ground progress is not for lack of priority or work! Transportation and Public Works (TPW)  has been working on this through: 1) reviewing the site with FEMA and going through the long process for FEMA funding and approval 2) getting permit, design, engineering and environmental reviews completed. 3) taking all that back to FEMA for approval. At this stage they discovered that the roadbed had eroded too much for a repair for the same type of road that was in place prior to the floods. As a result they 4) went back to the drawing board and created an alternate design to add a bridge to the site plan and took this new plan back to FEMA.

It is expected that the plan is now close to shovel-ready and will be under repairs this year.

Please be assured that we all agree that this is a huge priority and TPW is working diligently on getting Moscow Road open again.

My best regards,

Elise

EXTERNAL

Dear Lynda,

Well, nearly  at the start of what fearfully promises to be a very scary fire season due to our continued drought, the Moscow road closure continues. It's a health and safety issue , and not just for our fire season, but also creates a long detour for local fire and rescue vehicles accessing the west side of the road outage. It also  makes one whole escape route in the event of fast moving fires to be completely inaccessible to use. We'd actually have to backtrack hundreds of folks towards the most likely fire sources to get out via 116 or bohemian highway. This is a critical road for our area. What is the projected timeline for fixing this road so it's usable again?? This closure actually threatens lives, and should be a priority fix.

     Sincerely and urgently,

Christmas Leubrie (Monte Rio resident , homeowner)
