Dear Supervisor  Hopkins,
I just found out that our Guerneville  circulating Covid positivity rate is about 10 %, and rising. I just became aware that Guerneville  is having drop by testing for Covid in the Guerneville plaza.  Many people have come in contact with Covid positive folks and need continued testing to determine if they might be infected from that contact. Many of the people who have been infected are vaccinated, but many others are not, as they apparently are resistant to getting vaccinated, so we have a serious health problem escalating here.
We also really need testing in Monte Rio,  perhaps at the Monte Rio Community  Center, outside in the park area, for safety. We have a huge population that come every Wednesday to the community center for our drive through food bank, so that might be an opportune time to offer testing, and to alert folks to the new Covid rates, and maybe also offer vaccines.  I'm aware many people in Monte Rio aren't vaccinated, especially our unhoused population, as well as others ,  so I suspect our positivity rate will be at least as high, if not higher. The health center said they will test until they run out of the tests they have been issued, but that they need more to continue surveillance testing , as they are running low , and need more to handle the need out here. It seems critical that they get more tests ASAP . Could you utilize whatever pull you have to arrange for more test kits to be released to our local health center out here? This is an urgent situation, and we desperately need that help.
Thanks, Christmas Leubrie  retired RN 415-533-1895 ( please feel free to call for any clarifications .)

The surge in COVID cases due to the more virulent Delta variant has unfortunately reached Sonoma County. We are seeing an increase in positivity rates in testing. This morning Governor Gavin Newsom held a press conference announcing that all California State workers and health care employees must be vaccinated or get tested weekly and wear masks. He is encouraging private employers to follow this requirement and is strongly asking all members of the community that are eligible to receive vaccines do so.

We echo that encouragement to get vaccinated if you are eligible to do so. The increased transmission among the unvaccinated is not only dangerous to their own health and safety, but also to the ability for us to keep our businesses and schools open and ensure the safety of young children and others that are unable to get a vaccine.

Please go to https://myturn.ca.gov/ to find an appointment near you. More testing and Vaccination locations and information are available here: https://socoemergency.org/emergency/novel-coronavirus/.

More information from SoCoEmergency.org:
Since July 16, 2021, the Association of Bay Area Health Officials has recommended that all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public settings indoors, in response to increased circulation of COVID-19.

Our overall response, now focusing on vaccine efforts, strategically prioritizes communities with the greatest needs using race disparity research, community voices and wisdom, and public health best practices.
